Bai Lu, Jin Chen, Yang Rong, Qiao Xin cast in Ming Dynasty female ensemble comedy

Based on this oddly PS’ed poster, I’m guessing Yu Zheng will try to sell on historical aesthetics once more.

Song of Youth 玉楼春 is Yu Zheng’s latest period drama, a comedy starring Bai Lu, Jin Chen, Yang Rong, Huang Xinyao, Zheng Qiuhong, Lamuyangzi, Qiao Xin, and Wen Zhengrong. Their male love interests will be Wang Yizhe, Hao Lei, Chang Long, Zhou Lu, Zhu Zhiling, and Zheng Kai. According to Yu Zheng, the drama’s main focus will be fast-paced humor, but will include elements of traditional arts like pipa, guqin, dance, flower arrangement, the art of and fragrances and the like. It’ll also include actors from acting competition Real Actor.

This is Yu Zheng’s first attempt at comedy since Cosmetology High in 2014, which was not that well received (although idarklight enjoyed it).

Promos Round-up: The Prince of Tennis

Here’s another potentially solid drama to add to the many watchable ones currently airing – Go Go Squid!Love and Destiny, Eagle Flag, The Longest Day in Chang’an, and Return the World To You.

The latest adaptation of sports manga The Prince of Tennis 奋斗吧,少年 (formerly 网球少年) begins airing today. As with most dramas airing this summer, there’s little new promotional material other than one set of photos. But I did take the time to match up the characters with the manga names this time so it’s easier to figure out who’s who.

The series by directing duo Zhao Xiaoxi and Zhao Xiao’ou (Let’s Shake It) airs two episodes a day every Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesdays on Hunan TV / MGTV.

Trailer; More promotional materials; Cast on Happy Camp ; Ending theme by Hu Xia below:

Liang Jingkang, Guo Zifan, Rocket Girls star in realistic youth drama Project S

Deng Enxi plays Fern, a skater who thwarts the suicide attempt by a fellow student.

Tackling difficult issues like depression and autism, youth sports drama  Project S is an attempt to reinvent itself as a contender for quality youth drama by Wajijiwa, the Tencent subsidiary that manages Rocket Girls and R1SE. While their previous couple of dramas have lacked any logic and  was carried solely by idol power, this one is rooted in a much more realistic story. The remake of the three-part Thai series is currently filming its last third and will be a Tencent exclusive.

Wajijiwa is ran by Long Danni, who produced Super Girls, My Hero, Meteor Garden, and Produce 101, so it’ll be interesting where she’s headed with this drama.

Skate Our Souls 极限17 滑魂 – Guo Zifan, Deng Enxi, and Caesar Chen Zexi of X-Fire

The Prince of Tennis is getting another adaptation

Despite being filmed a decade apart, the two adaptations’ leading actors  (Qin Junjie and Peng Yuchang) are only three years apart in actual age.

From the bro-duo directors Zhao Xiaoxi and Zhao Xiao’ou of Let’s Shake It  comes the latest adaptation of manga The Prince of Tennis 网球少年. I’m guessing the script must be solid since the cast is quite impressive for an online drama, featuring   Peng Yuchang (Our Shining Days), former fencer Dong Li, Song Yiren (Ever Night), Zhang Yijie (Untouchable Lovers), Xie Binbin (Love Through the Millennium), Liu Yongxi (Our Shining Days), and Zhu Zhiling (My Classmate from Far, Far Away ).  Famed tennis player Li Na will also guest star. The series has already finished filming and hopefully will be online sometime this year.

I can’t think of  any competitive sports-themed drama lately out of China, so I’m really hoping that there is at least one good one among the many, many sports-themed dramas coming soon.  This is probably the best bet given the directors.
