Zheng Shuang and Ma Tianyu play a pair of childhood friends whose paths separate in their third drama together, River Flows To You 流淌的美好时光 (formerly Cry Me a Sad River 悲伤逆流成河). The series, so loosely based off the original book that its title is literally the opposite, begins air daily beginning July 1st. It should be available on Youtube here.
In semi-related news, Ma Tianyu and Zheng Shuang are currently regulars on new variety show We’re Growing Up 我们长大了, which is available on Youtube here.
Director Zhao Baogang (Struggle, My Youthfulness) is back with Youth Fight 青春斗, a 38 episode drama revolving around the friendship of four university graduates, their struggles and successes. Starring Zheng Shuang, Gai Yuexi, Xu Yue, Chen Xiaoyun and Wang Xiuzhu, the series airs daily on Beijing TV and Dragon TV beginning tonight.
(Episodes will be available on Youtube in the same channel)
The latest teaser for Cry Me A Sad River shows the childhood friends, played by Zheng Shuang and Ma Tianyu, each going about their own lives before finally reuniting at the end. Perhaps the only thing worth crying about is how vastly different this adaption is from the original?
Eddie Peng (Our Time Will Come) stars as the classic character in the upcoming Wukong 悟空传, a film based off Jin Hezai’s (Tribes and Empires, Wings of Wind) novel of the same name. Ni Ni (Suddenly Seventeen) costars as his true love Ah Zi, and Ou Hao(Blood of Youth) plays General Tianpeng.
Rush to the Dead Summeris a coming-of-age drama starring Chen Xuedong(The Great Wall) as a talented artist who is later swamped with accusations of plagiarism, Zheng Shuang (Love O2O) as his love interest and Bai Jingting (recently seen on well-received variety show Who’s the Murderer?) as his best friend who is not in love with his girlfriend.
Could Guo Jingming finally have a decent TV adaptation of his novels? The trailer so far seems lovely, and casting of Zheng Shuang, Chen Xuedong, Bai Jingting, Xia Ziting and Chai Biyun is perfect.
Rush to the Dead Summer follows the main lead Lu Xiaosi (Chen Xuedong). Xiaosi is an introverted but talented illustrator who began publishing under a pseudonym in high school. He finally made it big in college and started his own publishing company, only to be caught in accusations of plagiarism. As if afraid you can’t figure out that this story is about him, Guo Jingming made the main lead’s name (小司) literally being a homophone of his own pseudonym (小四).
This is the second time Chen Xuedong will play Guo Jingming, the last time being when he played Zhou Chongguang, an annoying writer who would never turn in his writings in time, in Tiny Times 1/2/3/4. We get it, guys, you guys are soulmates.
Being a Guo Jingming story, there are also a lot of love triangles. Xiaosi is joined by the extroverted and sunny bff who will literally die for him Lu Zhihang (Bai Jingting), the perfect(ly dull) female lead Lixia (Zheng Shuang) who he dates, the spunky Yujian (Xia Ziting) with dreams of being a rockstar and a love triangle of her own , and the vain Cheng Qiqi (Chai Biyun) who also likes Xiaosi.
