Our Glamorous Time revolves around the romance between an aspiring fashion designer (Zhao Liying) and a soldier turned CEO (Jin Han). Throw in some revenge plots and conspiracies set up by business competitors, and you’ve got yourself a 50 episode idol romance drama (I wouldn’t have guessed from the poster alone).

The Monkey King 3: Land of Beauty releases stills and trailers

Monkey King 3: Land of Beauty 西游记之女儿国 is the third film in director Cheang Pou-soi’s The Monkey King series, and stars Aaron Kwok (Eternal Wave) as Monkey King Sun Wukong, Feng Shaofeng (The Starry Night, The Starry Sea) as his master Tang Sanzang and Zhao Liying (Eternal Wave) as ruler of the Women’s Kingdom. Henry Lau’s cover of Love of a Maiden has been chosen as the ending theme song, though all other arrangements pale in comparison to Jane Zhang and Li Ronghao’s theme song (MV).

Huang Xuan, Zhao Liying collaborate with director Lu Yang for Sina’s Best Performance series

Lu Yang is fast becoming one of my favourite up-and-coming directors thanks to the Brotherhood of Blades film series, and his short videos for Sina’s Best Performance 最美表演 series are the best of the lot.

Huang Xuan’s character loses his wife (Zhao Liying) to illness, though she returns to their home one last time in spirit:

Jane Zhang, Li Ronghao forsake the world for Land of Beauty

It’s been so long since I’ve loved one of Jane Zhang’s theme songs, and this one is a work of genius.

The theme song to the eponymous film Land of Beauty 西游记女儿国 combines probably the two most beautiful love poems depicting the conflict between earthly love and eternal salvation, one told from the woman and one from the monk’s perspective, to create this beautiful duet.

The Story of Minglan releases teaser after just a month of filming

This is the fastest release of a teaser I have ever seen, and it actually looks really good. Daylight Ent deserves brownie points for using on-site recording (I’m hoping it stays in the final product, since most of the line reading is excellent) and a muted colour palette.

Eternal Wave 密战 is the movie remake of the 1958 action spy film of the same name (Chinese title: 永不消失的电波). In 1930s Shanghai, an anonymous telegraph leads the puppet government to an important underground meeting point and the death of a skilled Communist agent. Aaron Kwok (Peace Breaker) infiltrates the Kuomintang as a businessman from Chongqing to find the betrayer.
