I have always found some of Gao Xixi’s works and costuming to be a bit too stylistically bare for my preferences… here’s to changing my mind.
Gao Xixi’s The Legend of the Song Dynasty: Zhao Kuangyi is set to be released on August 10. Starring Chen Jianbin, Yin Tao, Shao Feng, and Wang Huichun, this drama follows the titular Zhao Kuangyin, the Song dynasty‘s first emperor, and the end of the Five Dynasties and Ten Kingdoms period. A very long trailer with lots of spoilers has been released here (I’ve warned you). Either way, since we are currently covering the Song dynasty in Sinology Sundays, I figure this is a good opportunity to take a look, assess the costuming, and see how clothing starts moving toward the characteristic Song dynasty look.
