Daylight Entertainment never disappoints as he returns with one of the most innovative set-ups for a drama yet. Based on the book of the same name, Reset 开端 tells of two groups of people stuck in a time loop where they keep returning to the beginning of a day or incident. Part crime thriller and part 50 First Dates, the novel could be one of the most fun adaptations of late. The series will be directed by Sun Molong (Minning Town), Suan (Mad House), and Liu Hongyuan.
In part one, Li Shiqing (Zhao Jinmai) experiences death over and over again on a bus, with each loop sending her back to the bus and back in time. To get off the bus, she accidentally dragged fellow passenger Xiao Heyun (Bai Jingting ) into the time loop. The two must try everything to make sure the bus gets to its destination safely to close the time loop.
Over the past week, Mango TV, Tencent and iQiyi have released teasers and promos for select dramas that will probably air next year (follow the links for more information). Which ones are you looking forward to most?
Yet another female ensemble drama, Astringent Girl, finished up filming and released its first set of stills. Of all the upcoming female ensemble dramas, this one and Nothing by Thirty have my favorite casts, so I’m really hoping it’ll be good. Can’t tell much so far other than the lighting and costumes look solid.
Tangren (Chinese Paladin + Chinese Paladin 3) has kind of been in a slump recently, but I still hope for the best for all their dramas. Their latest xianxia drama Linglong 玲珑 released its first trailers and I have mixed feelings. The CGI and sets look solid, but the lighting is horrible. Yuan Hong’s acting is a standout. I’ll have to see more to decide how I feel about the chemistry between the two young leads, Zhao Jinmai and Lin Yi.
Reborn 重生 is a spin-off of critically acclaimed crime drama Day and Night白夜追凶, and focuses on Qin Chi, the meticulous detective of the police department (Xiguan division). He is the sole survivor of the July 14 mass shooting, yet cannot recall anything that happened at the crime scene.
Astringent Girl 涩女郎 is the second adaption (the first being Pink Ladies 粉红女郎 back in 2003) of Zhu Deyong’s manhua of the same name, and stars Yin Tao(The Years You Were Late) as Wanrenmi, the most popular and attractive of the quartet.
Yuan Hong(Great Expectations), Zhao Jinmai (Growing Pains), Lin Yi (Put Your Head On My Shoulder) have been cast in Tangren’s upcoming ancient fantasy web drama Linglong 玲珑, which recently released a set of stills to test your vision.
