Wu Jinyan, Zhang Zhehan’s Zhaoge releases new trailer, stills to show off on-location scenery

Zhaoge is one of several stunning upcoming series shot on-location in Xinjiang. Others include Novoland : Eagle Flag, Ever Night: Dawn of the Empire, and Handsome Siblings.

Wow the cast of this Zhaoge 朝歌 has had done well since it started filming –   Li Yitong and Legend of the Condor Heroes,  Bai Yu in Guardian, Zhang Zhehan and Merxat in Legend of Yunxi, and then the current breakout hit of Wu Jinyan and Xu Kai in The Story of Yanxi Palace.

The Shang dynasty epic stars Wu Jinyan, Zhang Zhehan, Bao Jianfeng, Gillian Chung, Merxat, Xu Kai, Li Yitong, Puff Kuo, Jiang Yiyi, Hai Lu  , Bai Yu, Bai Lu, Chen Shu, Liu Min, Lian Lian, Deng Sha, Zhang Jianing, He Hongshan, and Liu Zhiyang.

Given their successes, I wouldn’t be surprised to see Zhaoge airing soon.

Ju Jingyi, Zhang Zhehan, Merxat for Legend of Yun Xi

Character posters have been released for Legend of Yun Xi 芸汐传, the upcoming ‘light historical drama’ (nicer way of saying youth idol drama in ancient clothing) starring Ju Jingyi (Xuanyuan Sword Legend: Clouds of Han) as Han Yunxi, a noble lady who likes to dabble with medicine and poison.

Review: Above the Clouds

Dragged down by typical Yu Zheng formula of being framed once per episode, Above the Clouds nevertheless shows promise for Chen Xiao and the scriptwriter.

How nice is it to actually have a female lead not fixed on romances? Despite a love triangle and the inability to learn, the female lead of Above the Clouds 云巅之上  was surprisingly unwavering in her acting dreams, something rare in recent dramas that makes even the most powerful women motivated solely by love.  The series tells of a romance between accidental actress by day and maid by night Jian Xi (Yuan Shanshan), her boss and the least-paparazzi-conscious actor Tang Fei ( Chen Xiao), his rumored girlfriend and her acting rival Ji Qing (Jiang Menjie),  and a pop star with terrible hair ( Zhang Zhehan). Zhaoge character designs

At least some of Yu Zheng’s tactics towards doing things seems to have changed. In the past, we would have been drowning in images by now.

Zhaoge 朝歌 released character designs a while ago and I thought I would share.  Starring Zhang ZhehanBao JianfengLin YouweiWu Jiayi, and Liu Mintao, based on these images, this seems to be a stylized take on the era.

Zhaoge prepares for filming

I don’t think an actual English title has been set in stone yet but given the time period this drama is set in, it is probably a reference to the capital city of the Shang Dynasty, Zhaoge.

Those who miss Yu Zheng‘s productions are in luck.  Zhaoge 朝歌 has started filming.  Starring Zhang ZhehanBao JianfengLin YouweiWu Jiayi, and Liu Mintao, the artwork so far looks fantastic but I guess with all Yu Zheng productions, we’ll have to wait until the final product to see if it suits your personal tastes.

(Warning!) Potential spoilers below the cut.
