Celebrity scandal debate drama Top season 2 comes out today

With one case per episode, Top is one of the shortest and most fast-paced cdramas around.

If you like celebrity gossip, you should watch Top (there’s one episode that’s literally Guo Jingming v Han Han ) ! If you like strong female leads with no romantic or family plotlines, this might be your only bet within like a ten-year-span. The Zhang Yamei-headed celebrity gossip debate series Top is one of the easiest watches of the year with only 24 episodes with about one case per episode. I’m on episode 8  of season 1 and every episode has been pretty fun. Here’s some more stills from the drama.

Fast-paced series Top dramatizes all the biggest celebrity scandals

The female lead has no main romantic plot and follows an arrogant, flawed, but lovable genius archetype that’s often reserved for men.

From popular idols accused of hitting a stalker fan to celebrity couples maintaining a marriage for the publicity, episodic internet debate drama Top 人间规则 dramatizes one celebrity scandals after another in the same addictiveness as the scandals themselves.  Zhang Yamei (If Paris Downcast) headlines as an arrogant but brilliant debater in this fast-paced show.  Each episode is a new case as she represents a new client on a televised court of public opinion and presents arguments and evidence for their case. Chen Ziyou and Sun Zhenglin play her opponent debaters.

The 12-episode (!) series streams two new episodes on iQiyi beginning October 10 here.  It wasn’t region blocked when I watched it.

Promo Round-up: If Paris Downcast

Romance drama If Paris [is] Downcast 如若巴黎不快乐 (also known as If You Are Unhappy in Paris, Paris is Not in a Good Mood) stars Zhang Han as a successful CEO of a corporate firm, and Kan Qingzi as a lawyer who serves jail time for making misrepresentations to the court on behalf of her client and ex-boyfriend.

The 48 episode drama airs 2 episodes every Sunday to Monday on Mango TV beginning tonight, while VIP members get a 6 episode head start. Overseas viewers get the VIP treatment for free on Youtube.

Ten Deadly Sins starts off a year of detectives

 Although this is like the fourth drama Zhang Han has produced, it's only the first one that's airing.  

Zhang Han’s just glad one of his four self-produced dramas is finally airing.

If you’re already paranoid by Brexit, just wait until you see the slew of psychopaths that the second half of 2016 will feature, starting with The Ten Deadly Sins 十宗罪.    Starring Zhang han, Yu Xiaotong, Eric Tsang, and newcomer Zhang Yamei, the series will air on July 20th on Youku.

Other upcoming detective series mostly focused on psychopaths include Wang Kai and Wang Ziwen’s When a Snail Falls in Love,  Yang Rong’s Memories Lost 美人为陷, Zhang Ruoyun and Jiao Junyan’s Medical Examiner Qin Ming 法医秦明 .  Upcoming films include Zhang Hanyun and Eddie Peng’s Operation Mekong, Liao Fan and Li Yifeng’s Evil Minds 心理罪, and the Alec Su-directed adaptation of The Devotion of Suspect X. 

The styling and cinematography is reminiscent of the classic Hong Kong cop films, with a nice blend of artistry and realism. The editing is creative, if not that suspenseful. But you can see for yourself:
