It’s funny how all of Ma Boyong’s drama adaptions (Mystery of Antiques, Secret of the Three Kingdoms, Longest Day in Chang’an, upcoming Luoyang) have high production values and star actors I like as leads, yet I just end up dropping all of them. Fingers crossed The Wind Blows from Longxi 风起陇西 can break the curse.

Guan Hu’s (Mr. Six, Candle in the Tomb) The Eight Hundred 八佰 focuses on the eight hundred Chinese soldiers who hold Shanghai’s defenses for four days against three hundred thousand Japanese troops. Starring Zhang Yi, Jiang Wu, Huang Zhizhong, Ou Hao, Wang Qianyuan and Du Chun, the film will be released on August 21st.
The second season of antique thriller, Antique Bureau / Mystery of Antiques, began streaming today. This drama had a promo period of like a week, so there are not that many promo material. The director for this actually has a better track record than that of one, so I’m hoping the drama will reflect that. It stars Xia Yu, Wei Chen, and Aly. ThThe series 2 episodes every Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday and should be available with English subs on WeTV.

Our Glamorous Time revolves around the romance between an aspiring fashion designer (Zhao Liying) and a soldier turned CEO (Jin Han). Throw in some revenge plots and conspiracies set up by business competitors, and you’ve got yourself a 50 episode idol romance drama (I wouldn’t have guessed from the poster alone).
Empress of the Ming: Legend of Sun Ruowei is the latest female-centric drama to star a well-known film actress, and this time Tang Wei will be playing the titular empress. Zhu Yawen, her costar from The Golden Era plays Sun Ruowei’s husband Zhu Zhanji, later known as the Xuande Emperor. Continue reading
Nothing Gold Can Stay seems like it’s going to take the crown of being the fastest period drama to get on air – female lead Sun Li wrapped up filming in May, and the 74 episode drama is all ready to air tonight.
Nothing Gold Can Stay is set in the years leading up to the fall of the Qing Dynasty, and stars Sun Li as a young girl who later transforms into a respected businesswoman.
Fun fact: Jin Han recently joined Zhao Liying’s studio.
Our Glamorous Time 你和我的倾城时光 has confirmed Zhao Liying (Princess Agents) and up-and-coming actor Jin Han (Chiyun Nan in The Princess Weiyoung) as leads. The drama will revolve around the romance between young white-collar worker Lin Qian and former military officer turned CEO Li Zhicheng.
