iQiyi recently released trailers and posters for a slew of upcoming shows that will either air exclusively on the site as web dramas and/or on television networks next year. Which shows are you looking forward to most?
Based on the acclaimed film of the same name, The Message tells the story of five suspects who are locked in a mansion as the Japanese try to find out who among them is the spy.
Starring Xu Lu, Janice Man, Zhou Yiwei (face photoshopped onto Zhao Lixin after the actor was blacklisted), Zhang Zhijian and Tony Yang, the drama announced its premiere 2 hours before premiering on Beijing TV last night. The drama should be available on an official Youtube channel soon.
Within minutes of The Untamed airing, historical suspense drama The Longest Day in Chang’an 长安十二时辰 released twelve episodes without any warning. You can watch it here (update: now region-blocked; update 2: it will be up on Amazon, Youtube and Viki sometimes in July). Only the first four episodes are available for non-VIP members. I’m not sure when/if the rest will be available for non-VIP members.
Like TheUntamed, there’s no new promotional materials other than the previous poster and synopsis here and trailer and stills here.
Republican mystery drama Spy Hunter stars Qin Junjie(Summer’s Desire) as Zi Liping, a young man who intends to seek revenge for his half-sister Guiwan’s (Xu Lu) “death”. Lu Yi costars as the main antagonist and his older brother Zi Liqun. [Extended Synopsis]
Espionage thriller The Message 风声 drama has released a second and much better trailer, with stylized shots and interwoven scenes to build up suspense. Based on the acclaimed film of the same name, the drama tells the story of five suspected locked in a mansion trying to find out who among them is the murder of a Japanese official. The series stars Xu Lu (Be With You), Janice Man (Love Weaves Through A Millennium 2), Zhao Lixin (The Rise of Phoenixes), Zhang Zhijian (In the Name of the People) and Tony Yang(Divas Hit the Road 2) as the leads.
I already love the trailer for The Longest Day in Chang’an, and despite director Cao Dun’s terrible track record in controlling the pacing of a show, I’m still hoping this will turn out to be a solid mystery drama. Lei Jiayin plays a former officer turned prisoner on death row who is hired by Yi Yangqianxi to find the culprit behind a terror plot within 24 hours. [Extended Synopsis]
