Good news for Guofu shippers – Chen Xiao and Mao Xiaotong, who played Yang Guo and Guo Fu in Romance of the Condor Heroes 2013, will be playing the leads in iQiyi’s wuxia drama The Ingenious One 云襄传 (also the drama at the centre of the script re-edit controversy in showbiz drama We Are All Alone).

After a slew of film projects, young actress Zhang Xueying returns to the TV world with a sports-themed drama. She’ll be playing a trainer-athlete in charge of training three slightly spoiled beach volleyball hopefuls (Xu Lingyue, Fei Qiming, and Gao Minrui) in Go! Beach Volleyball Girls 燃!沙排少女.
Zhang Xueying is one of my favorite young actresses, so I’m always excited to see her new projects. Plus, and this one’s announcement even came with a nice photoshoot.

Song dynasty drama Held in the Lonely Castle 孤城闭 released a new set of stills to celebrate its five months so far of filming.
Directed by Zhang Kaizhou (The Story of Minglan) , the historical drama is about the Emperor Renzong of Song’s struggle to balance the factions both within and outside his palace while trying to push through new reforms. The series stars Wang Kai, Jiang Shuying, Ren Min, and Bian Cheng.

Zhang Tian’ai joins the cast as one of the concubines of the Emperor Renzong of Song
Song dynasty drama Held in the Lonely Castle 孤城闭 announced its latest round of cast members, including Zhang Tian’ai, Cao Xiwen, Wu Yue, Xu Lingyue, Zhang Benshuo, Wen Yanbo, and Ding Jiawen.

It’s nice to see productions in all different genres coming through the works as opposed to every other drama being a palace period or any other of the genres that have been popular lately.
Fighter of the Destiny 择天记 has released more stills and a teaser. Starring Lu Han, Gulnazar, Wu Qian, Yao Di, Zeng Shunxi, Xu Lingyue, Ju Xianhao, Zhang Junzhu, Gao Hanyu, Chen Shu, and Eric Tsang, it seems like as of late, a decent production team is only covering the basics of what it takes to make a successful drama as other production teams ramp up on these regards. Dramas with productions that may have once commanded hoards of fans and dominated ratings are finding it harder to do so with other productions in the line-up.
