Promo Round-Up: Serenade of Peaceful Joy

Serenade of Peaceful Joy is the first court-focused Song Dynasty drama in forever.

Director Zhang Kaizhou (The Story of Ming Lan) returns to the Song Dynasty in  Serenade of Peaceful Joy (formerly Held in the Lonely Castle) in this tale of the court and harem of the Emperor Renzong of Song (Wang Kai). The series focuses on the attempts of the leads to try to balance their responsibilities and personal lives and stars Wang Kai, Jiang Shuying, Ren Min, Bian Cheng, Yang Le, Wang Churan, Ye Zuxin, Yu En’tai, Xu Lingyue, and Zhang Tian’ai.

The series should be available on Youtube on this channel beginning April 7th, with two episodes a day on weekdays and one episode a day on weekends.

Promo Round-up: The Best Partner

Upcoming legal drama The Best Partner stars Jin Dong as a succesful attorney and Lan Yingying as a budding lawyer. The drama’s supporting and guest star lineup features Liu Mintao, Zhu Zhu, Tian Yu, Dai Xu, Sun Chun, Wang Ou, Wu Yue, Vivian Wu, Yuan Quan and Qiao Zhenyu, just to name a few.

Song dynasty drama Held in the Lonely Castle 孤城闭 released a new set of stills to celebrate its five months so far of filming.

Directed by Zhang Kaizhou (The Story of Minglan) , the historical drama is about the Emperor Renzong of Song’s struggle to balance the factions both within and outside his palace while trying to push through new reforms. The series stars Wang Kai, Jiang Shuying, Ren Min, and Bian Cheng.

Zhang Tian’ai joins the cast as one of the concubines of the Emperor Renzong of Song

Song dynasty drama Held in the Lonely Castle 孤城闭 announced its latest round of cast members, including Zhang Tian’ai, Cao Xiwen, Wu Yue, Xu Lingyue, Zhang Benshuo, Wen Yanbo, and Ding Jiawen.

Wang Qianyuan, Lu Han cast in Day & Night director’s new drama

Sisyphus 在劫难逃 is an upcoming mystery sci-fi thriller starring Wang Qianyuan as Zhang Haifeng, a former detective who has been wasting away his days after the accidental death of his two-year-old daughter. A recent serial murder case that seems to tie in with his daughter’s case catches his eye, and Zhang Haifeng begins to chase down a man who has been labelled a main suspect (Lu Han).

I sincerely wish historical drama producers would stop hiring Zhang Shuping/William Chang as costume designer, because the leads’ weird hairdos and costumes usually stick out like a sore-thumb (The Rise of Phoenixes is probably the best of the lot).

Empress of the Ming chronicles the life of Sun Ruowei (Tang Wei) a young girl who puts her vengeance behind her to become a virtuous empress, and eventually a respected empress dowager.
