Even though the Magnolia Awards tend to favor actors/directors/dramas in the Shanghai circle, it is the awards show I enjoy watching most because the winners are usually worthy recipients. By all accounts, The Thunder winning Best Drama and Best Screenwriter was probably the biggest surprise of the night. A Little Reunion, Joy of Life and The Longest Day in Chang’an also took home two awards each.Continue reading
Watch this recreated Tang Dynasty band play a remix of the music from The Longest Day in Chang’an performed by Zide Guqin Studio. They’ve also previously done a Song Dynasty band reenactment here.
The first half of The Longest Day in Chang’an is mesmerising, and has a very meaty setup – Zhang Xiaojing (Lei Jiayin), former police detective (buliangren) and currently a prisoner on death row, is given the near impossible mission of uprooting a terrorist group within twenty four hours. He sacrifices close friends and subordinates and willingly puts himself in mortal danger in order to save the people of Chang’an, yet is easily thrown under the bus by those in power when things get out of control.Continue reading
Tang Dynasty counter-terrorism thriller The Longest Day in Chang’an 长安十二时辰 showcases the beauty of Tang Dynasty Chang’an in its latest set of promotional posters. Since its premiere, the series has been highly praised for its costumes, make-up, and sets and their attention to detail.
The series is available for members on Amazon, Viki , and will soon be on Youtube with English subs.
Within minutes of The Untamed airing, historical suspense drama The Longest Day in Chang’an 长安十二时辰 released twelve episodes without any warning. You can watch it here (update: now region-blocked; update 2: it will be up on Amazon, Youtube and Viki sometimes in July). Only the first four episodes are available for non-VIP members. I’m not sure when/if the rest will be available for non-VIP members.
Here’s a round-up of Lantern Festival poster/stills released for upcoming (and one currently airing) dramas. Happy Lantern Festival!
I already love the trailer for The Longest Day in Chang’an, and despite director Cao Dun’s terrible track record in controlling the pacing of a show, I’m still hoping this will turn out to be a solid mystery drama. Lei Jiayin plays a former officer turned prisoner on death row who is hired by Yi Yangqianxi to find the culprit behind a terror plot within 24 hours. [Extended Synopsis]
The Longest Day in Chang’an 长安十二时辰 is an upcoming Youku web drama based on Ma Boyong’s novel of the same name, and stars Jackson Yi Yangqianxi (Boyhood) and Lei Jiayin (Brotherhood of Blades II) as leads.
