Weibo Wednesday: September 23, 2015

This is less of a Weibo Wednesday update and more of round-up of a bunch of celebrities who announced they were dating (or in one case, married) and whom we couldn’t bother devoting an entire post to. Let me know if there are any celebrities you’d like an update from, because the Weibosphere has been a little dry lately, tbh.

Chen Xiao dating Michelle Chen

Michelle Chen dating Chen Xiao

陳妍希michelle: @陈晓 [心][心][心][兔子]

Whether you loved or hated The Romance of the Condor Heroes (神雕侠侣), you gotta admit that the way leads Chen Xiao and Michelle Chen went public with their real-life relationship is pretty cute.

Chen Xiao: There will be a day when you will share my surname.

Happy last day of the year! We hope that 2014 wraps up well for all of our Cfensi readers, and that 2015 will be an even better year! No earth-shattering news in this Weibo Wednesday round-up, but there are some cute animals and the usual pack of cute kids.

“Condor Heroes” fights back against netizen backlash

FotorCreated

After defending his love against the societal pressure in the drama, Chen Xiao must fight against it once more for XiaoLongNv’s actress.

Using netizens’ mockery of the new adaptation, the first official ad for the newly-named The Romance of the Condor Heroes  has Chen Xiao, calling for the audience to shatter the wall of gossip, and look at the series and Michelle Chen for what it (she) really is.

This is exactly why no one planning to air on Hunan TV should release trailers before Hunan TV does.  I feel like their ads deserve to be put on altars. For another example, I love how this ad of Ancient Sword turn real-life news hotspots into positive selling points for the shows.

The series is set to follow The Song of Desert in its weekly spot.  Chen Xiao’s other drama, Cloud Song, has unfortunately been pushed back once more.

Chen Xiao’s “The Condor Heroes” Releases First Preview

Chen Xiao and Michelle Chen display their tag-team kung fu as Yu Zheng shows off his Photoshop fu. (Seriously. Look at Chen Xiao’s forehead.)

Yu Zheng may have been accused of plagiarism, but that’s not stopping him from going full-steam ahead with his other high-profile project, the newest adaptation of wuxia classic Return of the Condor Heroes (神雕侠侣). Starring Chen Xiao as Yang Guo and Michelle Chen as Xiaolongnü, the drama is now officially titled The Romance of the Condor Heroes.

The preview is essentially a mishmash of scenes that will probably make sense only to those who know the storyline (or, seeing as Yu Zheng is the screenwriter, maybe not). Check out the video and some stills below, and get your first look at Yang Rong as Mei Chaofeng.

Upcoming period drama news round-up

Zheng Shuang ready to start a fight over who’s prettier, her or Ma Tianyu.

After playing a quarreling duo in Legend of the Ancient Sword 古剑奇谭, Zheng Shuang and Ma Tianyu meet again for Gourmet Beauty 美人私房菜, a romantic comedy of food and beauty. More here.

While we haven’t seen Hu Ge in a while, he’s been kept busy with dramas. He recently begun filming a lead role in the List of Langya 琅琊榜. Nicknamed the Chinese “The Count of Monte Cristo” and based on the book of the same name, the List of Langya is yet another epic directed by Kong Sheng of Chuang GuanDong. The series costars Liu Tao, Wang Kai, Jin Dong and Chen Long. Character drawings here. I’m so excited for this!!! Continue reading

Weibo Wednesday: Merry Christmas!

For those of you who celebrate it, Merry Christmas! For those of you who don’t… have Wang Leehom in a Santa costume.

王力宏: 糜鹿放假了,留了聖誕老公公一個人坐上往濟南的飛機!

The reindeer all went on vacation, living Santa Claus to sit on a plane to Ji’nan all by himself!

Some more silliness, but also a solemn farewell, behind the cut.

Weibo Wednesday: December 4, 2013

陈晓: 我已经沦陷,小小龙女问我,你演谁啊,其实我演谁都不重要,我是来求合照的,Mua!

Chen Xiao fans, you officially have the right to be jealous. Here he is with child actress Zhang Zimu, who’s playing the little-girl version of Xiaolongnü in The Condor Heroes (神雕侠侣)… yet another of Yu Zheng’s added flashback plots. But she’s cute so I guess it’s okay. Plus Chen Xiao is already smitten with her.

I’ve already fallen into enemy hands. Little Xiaolongnü asked me, ‘Who are you playing?’ Actually it doesn’t matter who I’m playing, I’m here to ask to take a picture with her. Mua!

“Condor Heroes” release stills for Dong Xuan,Yan Yikuan

704_1164264_584202

Dong Xuan, Yan Yikuan goes to the Yule Ball.

While the leads of The Condor Heroes are getting all sorts of hate,  the rest of the cast still get pretty stills.  The latest set released are of name-changed Yan Yikuan as Wang Chongyang, the founder of the Quanzhen Sect,  and Dong Xuan as Lin Chaoyin,  the founder of the Ancient Tomb Sect of the main character XiaoLongNv.  The pair of star-crossed lovers has a rather beautiful love story, which you can read more about here.

Weibo Wednesday: November 20, 2013

Apologies for the lack of normal Weibo Wednesdays in the past… month. If I could spend more time each day scrolling through Weibo for memorable posts, I definitely would, but unfortunately, that’s not what I get paid to do! But we do have a deluge of goodies from the past month, so full speed ahead!

井柏然: 我想和你好好的.必须得看阿2ni@倪妮V

Jing Boran showed his support for real-life couple Feng Shaofeng and Ni Ni‘s first feature film together, Love Will Tear Us Apart (我想和你好好的), calling it a must-watch. Jing Boran and Ni Ni will soon star together in Up in the Wind (等风来), a film about two unlikely friends’ search for happiness, which eventually leads them to Nepal. Up in the Wind opens in theaters on December 29th. Forever LOLing at the person trying to sneak a pic of Ni Ni with their Minion phone in this photo below.

Stills of Chen Xiao, Michelle Chen,Zhang Xinyu released for The Condor Heroes

Any more like a fairy now?

My feelings on the casting of Michelle Chen as the Little Dragon Maiden are comparatively weak, which is why I am the one posting the latest stills from Yu Zheng’s new version of Return of the Condor Heroes. That, and because I strongly dislike (hate) Yu Zheng. Previously, he had shown us pictures of Michelle Chen in the audition gown for Jin Yong’s ethereal ice beauty and promised that she would look even better in the real costume.

…Well, the real costumes are out now. I suppose you could say that the backgrounds are very heavenly. (Yu Zheng, why can’t you even get little details right? Is it so hard to keep her clothing completely white? Why is there all this pink and blue?) Chen Xiao‘s Yang Guo has also had official stills release, and as usual, Chen Xiao is an attractive young lad. Unfortunately, he looks like he’s wearing several bandanas over polka-dot pajamas. Though one would argue that it is better than this.

Instead of wondering what Yu Zheng was thinking (because maybe he wasn’t), let’s wonder how he can top the craziness of this drama. Stretch that imagination!
