Liu Yifei posing for The Return of the Condor Heroes
Posters, stills, photoshoots, and random photos that caught my eye this week.
Is this the year of wuxia drama remakes? There’s Hu Yitian’s Handsome Siblings, Zeng Shunxi’s Heavenly Sword Dragon Slaying Sabre, Tong Mengshi’s The Return of the Condor Heroes and now a new version of Demi-Gods and Semi-Devils 天龙八部.
All hail the Emperor.
Despite a large portion its audience using Baidu, The Story of Yanxi Palace 延禧攻略 is the most googled show of the year all over the globe. The tv series was the only Chinese name to make it on any of the lists on Google’s Top Searches of the Year released today.
The show has shot to fame its stars Wu Jinyan and Xu Kai, and re-launched the careers of Nie Yuan, Qin Lan, Charmaine Sheh, and most importantly producer Yu Zheng. After a successful online run, it received successful runs on TV in the mainland, Taiwan, and Hong Kong. You can watch the hit show English subbed on Viki and Chinese subbed on Youtube.
New Return of the Condor Heroes (I refuse to acknowledge their official title The New Version of the Candor Heroes) made headlines yesterday after releasing a set of badly photoshopped posters, and tried to salvage the sinking drama by releasing a new set featuring Yang Guo (Tong Mengshi) and Xiaolongnv (Mao Xiaohui)…except I don’t think they succeeded.
I want Lan Yingying to come back as a guest actor and do a skit with Tan Jianci and Li Landi on I’m an Actor. These three are my favorites out of the two seasons of the show.
Never Gone 原来你还在这里 released a new trailer following the growth of its four leads – Li Landi and Yang Zishan, Hu Xianxu and Han Dongjun, Li Gengxi and Su Qing, and Bian Cheng and Tan JIanci. The series is set for a November 6th release date on Youku
Trailer below and posters below the cut.
Hu Xianxu recently fulfilled his long-standing dream of finally getting a girlfriend within a month of college starting.
Never Gone 原来你还在这里 released a new set of posters comparing the young and grown-up versions of its four leads – Li Landi and Yang Zishan, Hu Xianxu and Han Dongjun, Li Gengxi and Su Qing, and Bian Cheng and Tan JIanci.
Pretty much everyone but the two adult leads have gotten more well-known since the series was filmed. Lan Yingying, Li Landi, and Tan Jianci have all been applauded for their performances on I’m an Actor / The Birth of an Actor, Hu Xianxu failed on that show but did get his first girlfriend in college, Su Qing was a hit as the antagonist in The Story of Yanxi Palace, Bian Cheng in Ruyi’s Royal Love in the Palace, while Li Gengxi debuted in her first lead drama My Classmate From Far, Far Away.
Hopefully, the release of the posters means they’ll capitalize on the hype and release the drama soon. Meanwhile, here’s a promo song by Han Dongjun:
Here are two unrelated photoshoots of Wang Kai and Su Qing at the same exact restaurant in Beijing that pairs well enough that I’ve decided it’s one photo story of a guy’s failed attempts at getting the attention of a girl who just wants her food.
Look at these beautiful people attending a party for Elle China’s 30th birthday party. The event is somewhere up high in Shanghai, but it’s not like you can tell from the photos since they just used two fake skies as a backdrop.
Guests include Ni Ni, Li Yuchun, Yang Mi, Tang Yan, Angelababy, Song Qian, Bai Baihe, Liu Wen, Zhang Zilin, Wang Junkai, Lin Yanjun, Mao Buyi, Xu Weizhou, and the casts of Meteor Garden, The Story of Yanxi Palace, and Ruyi’s Royal Love in the Palace. There are others at the event but I only included people who got an official photo from Elle and a few notable looks. Which ones are your favorites?
Elle Cover Girls. I like how Li Yuchun is just like, nope, not doing that weird heart thing.
