Both shows are promoted as warm ‘healing romance’ dramas that feature two people falling in love after going through various trials and tribulations together.
Dilraba and Shawn Dou star in The Saga of Light 日月, a rom-com retelling of the legend Hou Yi and Chang’e. Directed by Jin Yimeng, the film is the first I know of that puts them in semi-prehistoric gear rather than just hanfu.
Shawn Dou plays Hou Yi, an legendary archer who shoots down nine out of the ten suns to save the world. His reward was a pill of immortality that was instead eaten by his wife Chang’e (Dilraba), who became the goddess of the Moon. The film has just wrapped up filming and is set for a summer 2019 release.
Promotional tagline: “Time is limited, so please don’t hide.”
Shawn Dou (Tribes and Empires) is reuniting with the director of See You Again in upcoming romance drama Ten Years Late 十年三月三十日, a loose adaption of Fumi Saimon’s manga series Asunaro Hakusho. Nazha (Fighter of the Destiny) has joined the cast as the female lead.
It’s here! It’s finally here! Tribes and Empires: Storm of Prophecy, also known as the drama with the best trailers ever, is going to premiere tonight at 8pm (CN time) on streaming sites Tencent, iQiyi and Youku.
The entire story is set in Novoland, a fantasy world comprising of mortals (who either live in the prosperous Eastern Land or the nomadic Eight Tribes), dwarves (河洛), the winged people (羽), spirits (魅), titans (夸父) and merfolk (鲛).
The 80 episode drama will revolve around the friendship between a half-spirit half-human prince with a cursed fate (Huang Xuan), a general’s son (Shawn Dou) who is fated to become emperor and the heir of a nomadic tribe (Zhou Yiwei) who wants to rise up against the ruling dynasty.
BTS and character specials (playlist):
Promotional tagline: “Only time is aware of the love buried deep in our hearts.”
See You Again stars Tang Yan (The Princess Weiyoung) as Shi Jian, a woman who time travels back a decade in her dreams after the plane she is on encounters heavy turbulence. The first one was released by broadcaster Dragon TV, and actually gives us some insight into the story, while the official teaser released by the production company goes for a dreamy concept.
Lin Gengxin stars as Yuwen Yue, the noble who forces Chu Qiao to undergo grueling training to become a spy. Shawn Dou plays the ambitious Yan Xun whose family is later massacred, and Li Qin rounds out the main quartet as Yuan Chun, the princess who harbours an unrequited love for Yan Xun. The extended cast members are featured in the group poster.
The 68 episode drama will begin airing tonight.
When was the last time a woman sang the exciting OP about ruling the world? Props to Princess Agents for breaking the mold of a fastbeat male opening song and a romantic female ending song.
Featuring an ancient drama female lead with an actual goal in mind (and to free the slaves that she was once a part of, no less), and whose romantic deal breaker is politics, this could very well be Zhao Liying’s breakthrough role to launch her out of cutesy roles. OP is by Zhang Bichen and Zhao Liying.
