As noted in the comments by Cat,Border Town Prodigal has released more stills and a trailer. Starring Zhu Yilong,Ye Qingbin, Qiu Xinzhi, Zhang Xinyu, Chai Biyun, Vincent JiaoEnjun, Gong Mi, and Zhang Junning. These stills seem to be a bit more colorful but the trailer seems pretty good.
Period cross-dressing, a venture still only believable to residents in the drama…
Border Town Prodigal has released more stills. Starring Zhu Yilong,Ye Qingbin, Qiu Xinzhi, Zhang Xinyu, Chai Biyun, Vincent JiaoEnjun, Gong Mi, and Zhang Junning, I have to say that after seeing more stills, there are definitely some elements that work and others that I’m still sitting on the wall about.
Really appreciate how the cloth choice on some of the costumes turned out.

Zhu Yilong is finally on the better end of a love triangle!
I’ve had a soft spot for Zhu Yilong ever since he wooed Yang Rong in Love for Three Lifetimes, and now he’s starring with Zhang Xinyu in upcoming drama 边城浪子 (Border Town Prodigal).
The leader of the Divine Knife sect, Bai Tianyu, was mysteriously ambushed and killed in the border town Plum Nunnery. Twenty years later, Fu Hongxue (Zhu Yilong), leaves the western regions and returned to the central plains (China) in order to investigate his adopted father’s death. At the same time, Bai Tianyu and Hua Baifeng’s biological son, Ye Kai (Ye Qingbin), also left for the border town. The two find that it was Bai Tianyu’s sworn brother, Ma Kongqun (Qiu Xinzhi), who organized the assassination. (As luck would have it), Ma Kongqun’s beautiful daughter, Ma Suling (Zhang Xinyu) falls for Fu Hongxue, while Ye Kai falls for her…together, they will face Ma Kongqun. Other members of the cast include Chai Biyun, Vincent Jiao Enjun, Gong Mi, and Zhang Junning.
Yang Rong is incredulous that some dramas (ie, Desert Melody) get held back for years, and Making of a Beauty is broadcasting within a month.
Now that Fan Bingbing’s White Haired Witch (of Lunar Kingdom) has been broadcasted, Yang Rong can take a shot at the title. Featuring Jin Shijia, Dilireba, Kenny Kwan, Kristy Yang, Li Xin’ai, Luo Jin, Sheren Tang, Su Qing, Wang Li’ke, Yuan Shanshan, and Zhang Tian’ai, Yu Zheng’s upcoming production The Making of a Beauty continues to release stills.
Laure Shang Wenjie performs the theme song (listen to it on Youtube here) for the drama, “Waiting for Waist-long Hair 待我长发及腰 (wait for my hair to grow to my waist).” (Zhang Jie is supposed to sing another, Listen 听).
Incredibly, this drama (which began filming this July), will be broadcast on Hunan TV every Sunday…beginning September 7th!? in Paranormal Adonis’ time slot (source). More stills below the cut. Continue reading →
You can find concepts for the costumes here, although I don’t see Yang Rong’s gowns among them.
Yu Zheng‘s studios is coming out with another drama, which began shooting in Hengdian on July 1st. Starring Jin Shijia as a miracle doctor (who does things like catch mermaids when not mixing up a new treatment for his royal patrons…including Sheren Tang‘s Wu Zetian). Yang Rong, long time supporting lead for Yu Zheng’s dramas, finally nailed the protagonist role as the female lead, Jin Shijia’s love interest. Jin Shijia finds out that his son was actually fathered by his steward (it’s Yu Zheng, go with the flow), and takes to the streets; Yang Rong, who is the madame of a brothel and unabashedly in love with Jin Shijia (a Tang dynasty “superfan”), takes him in - though he causes her business to go bankrupt.
The story will play out in five chapters, each one a mini-story, and air on Hunan’s weekly spot after Paranormal Adonis
. Yuan Shanshan will be Princess Yongning in one of them, falling in love with Luo Jin‘s young general; later, Su Qing‘s workaholic character realizes that Zhang Tianai’s interloper threatens her previously unappreciated relationship with her husband, played by Kenny Kwan. Later, a prince (Qiu Xinzhi) will demand that Jin Shijia’s doctor return his consort(Kristy Yang)’s youth, and unable to do so, they will bring in Hsin Ai Lee/Li Xinai as a substitute instead. Add Wang Like, a mermaid-assasin(???) to the mix, and you get the basic plotline for Yu Zheng’s new collaboration with Hunan TV, The Making of a Beauty 美人制造.
