iQiyi recently released trailers and posters for a slew of upcoming shows that will either air exclusively on the site as web dramas and/or on television networks next year. Which shows are you looking forward to most?
Helmed by the writer of last year’s cult hit The Bad Kids, Left Right 亲爱的小孩 will focus on the Chinese way of rearing kids, and stars Qin Hao, Ren Suxi, Nie Yuan and THE9’s Xie Keyin in the lead roles.
Initial articles reported the web drama as an adaption of Wang Xiaoshuai’s film In Love We Trust:
Mei Zhu and Xiao Lu used to be a couple. They lived together, were married and had a little daughter named Hehe. But that was long ago. Mei and Xiao’s marriage broke up; they both found new partners and remarried. The only bond that remains is Hehe. But their normal, routine lives come to an end when their daughter suddenly falls ill. Leukaemia is the shocking diagnosis. Her only hope is a bone marrow transplant from a sister or brother. But Hehe has no siblings. What now? Mei and Xiao and their new partners are faced with a life-changing decision.

I can count on one hand how many dramas I watched from beginning to end, so I’ve decided to do things differently this year and shine the spotlight on the characters that I really liked. Feel free to submit your own reviews and posts here.
Over the past week, Mango TV, Tencent and iQiyi have released teasers and promos for select dramas that will probably air next year (follow the links for more information). Which ones are you looking forward to most?
Zhao Wei returns to drama land after six years in As Long As We Are Together 学区房. She will be playing He Chunru, the mum who believes in taking a laissez-faire attitude when it comes to her son’s education.
I’m so excited to see Li Qin playing a kick-ass martial artist / female general in The Song of Glory. Qin Hao plays Liu Yikang (yes, they changed the storyline during filming), the emperor’s brother who later becomes prime minister.
The 53 episode drama releases 2 eps every Wed-Fri on Tencent (subs on Viki).
Period romance drama The Song of Glory stars Li Qin as a vigilante turned general’s daughter and Qin Hao as the emperor who has less political clout than his officials. [Extended Synopsis]
The drama was filmed in the seaside city of Zhanjiang.
It’s not even halfway through 2020 but I’m 95% certain I’ve already found my favourite drama of the year. The Bad Kids is directed by Xin Shuang, and revolves around three kids who blackmail a murderer (Qin Hao).
Previously translated as The Hidden Corner / Cat’s Cradle,The Bad Kids takes over the mystery thriller baton from Kidnapping Game, and stars Qin Hao as a long-suffering son-in-law whose crimes are caught on camera by three kids.
The 12 episode miniseries will be available with Eng subs on the iQiyi app.
The Song of Glory revolves around the romance between a king (QinHao) who is pushing for political reform and a jianghu martial artist who becomes a female general (LiQin). The 63 episode drama is scheduled to air this year.
