Guo Puyuan is one of those photographers whose every work feels like they should be on display in a museum. I only discovered him this year but he already has my top three favorite photoshoots of the year (Zhong Chuxi, Zhou Xun, and Ni Ni’s) .
His photos often have trace elements of surrealism, and his unique use of lighting creates a distinct 3D on 2D look to all his subjects.
Known for his use of light to decorate his objects, Liu Zongyuan’s photographs often feel like they come from the impressionist school of painting. You might remember him from the famous Mulan-like photoshoot he did for Liu Yifei, but that photoshoot is not even up there among his best. He often brings an ethereal beauty to his subjects and their surroundings. Liu Yifei is probably Liu Zongyuan’s most common muse and the one who put him on the map, but he is also a frequent collaborator with actresses like Liu Shishi (who loves him so much she got him to do her wedding shoot) and Li Qin.
Zhou Xun sets a high standard with her grace here.
Bride-to-be Zhang Xinyi was gorgeous in lace and feathers for Modern Bride; she and Zheng Leipai‘s sweeping dresses help create a sort of Gothic theme for this round up. Qin Lan has a pixie cut with threads of red and blue, and Dong Xuan looks surprised in her almost gloomy set. Zhang Jingchu, with her role in upcoming movie The Switch, is confident against red lacquer, and Shu Qi adds a few more long dresses to our collection of fashionable gowns. I’ve always thought hat Eddy Peng had the cutest baby face, but he really exudes a new type of maturity for Milk.
Perhaps most exciting of all…look at the end of the shoot for a little surprise regarding Yao Chen. It must be significant if Bazaar gives her three covers for it. Look below the cut for more pictures. Continue reading →
