Peng Xiaoran, Jin Han begin filming period romance Jun Jiuling

Peng Xiaoran (Goodbye My Princess) plays an intelligent princess who specialises in medicine in Jun Jiuling 君九龄. After her family is murdered, she takes on a new identity and begins her own secret investigations in an attempt to unravel the political conspiracy. Jin Han (Royal Nirvana) plays her childhood sweetheart and future love interest Zhu Zan.

Based on Xixing’s novel of the same name, the drama is written by Li Mingchao (Buliangren) and directed by Xie Ze (Legend of Fuyao).

Han Dongjun, Peng Xiaoran’s modern drama releases teaser

After just 20 days of filming, My Talent Neighbour 走起我的天才街坊 has released a teaser. Han Dongjun plays Chen Xiao, a genius AI engineer who is persuaded by headhunter Shen Nuo (Peng Xiaoran) to leave his original firm. Desperate to escape his ex-girlfriend (Chen Xinyu), he agrees to her proposal, and the two embark on an entrepreneurial journey.

Directed by Xing Xiao (A Loner), the 36 episode drama is scheduled to stream on Youku after filming wraps.

Peng Xiaoran and Huang Junjie reenacts The Legend of Demon Cat

From classics like Daming Palace/Palace of Desire and Chinese Paladin to recent films like The Legend of Demon Cat and Cry Me a Sad River, Tencent’s new acting competition Attention, Actors 演员倾就位 combines the best of I am an actor and Phantastic by capturing the actors for a TV performance rather than on stage while still maintaining an one-take rule. Featuring directors Chen Kaige, Li Shaohong, Vicki Zhao Wei, and Guo Jingming, the resulting segments are on average far more watchable than the other two.

Tencent’s new acting variety show releases stills of contestants

Peng Xiaoran (Goodbye My Princess) reenacting Chen Kaige’s Legend of the Demon Cat

Tencent’s upcoming big-budget acting variety show Attention, Actors 演员请就位 (lit.) has hired directors Li Shaohong (Palace of Desires, Dream of Red Mansions 2010), Chen Kaige (Farewell My Concubine, Legend of the Demon Cat), Guo Jingming (Tiny Times, L.O.R.D) and Zhao Wei (So Young) as judges who will assemble their own team from a group of 58 actors.

Drama Review: Goodbye My Princess

Funnily enough, the drama premiered on Valentine’s Day, and ended on Qingming Festival (Tomb-Sweeping Day).

Goodbye My Princess is yet another example of the typical Chinese drama that starts off as a pretty engaging show, starts falling apart in the middle, and can barely hold itself together by the time it reaches the finish line.
