Like last year, eeMedia’s filming a year-end MV although this time it’s only with Yu Haoming, Wang Yuexin(!), Top Combine and Pan Chen and Pan Hongyue. But that doesn’t mean the behind the scenes pictures are any less fun to look at. I think I gained like five new ships. They even have me shipping Wang Yuexin/Pan Chen now. Madness. Sorry for the lack of Jin Ensheng and Zhang Yuan, hopefully other pictures will come out soon.
Who wouldn't fall in love with those gorgeous eyes and the beautiful voice?
A love letter from 2009 Super Girl Pan Hongyue to 2005 Super Girl He Jie, via Pan Hongyue’s sina blog. He Jie was increasingly unhappy in her years at eeMedia back when Long Danni hadn’t taken over the company, and left it before her contract, which put her and eeMedia in a bad position. Happily the comapny seems to still have amicable relations with her as He Jie is to go on Jie Jie Gao Sheng to promote her new single.
In 2007, I finally attended the college (Sichuan Conservatory of Music, where both girls attended) I liked, to see the person I want to see.
Today, I begin to remember. I miss Baobao (He Jie’s nickname is Jie Baobao aka Baby Jie), I miss her very much.
I like you, but I’ve never done anything for you.
I saw you on TV. I was happy because you smiled, I was sad because you cried.
Today, I rewatched your videos, the latest ones and the old ones.
I know that the status quo is not what you want, but who can I understand you!!!!
When I see the dark bags around your eyes become heavy, my heart aches, aches so much! ! !
I hate hearing anyone saying bad things about you, because they’re all idiots!
They don’t understand you, they don’t understand your troubles. Although I’ve never met you, I know you’re not that type of person.
I trust you! I’m not very happy today, neither. Watching you returning to our school in 2007, the bravery with which you sung, I like you, not because of your voice but you yourself. There’s no f-ing reason why, I simply do!
Pan Hongyue may seem pompous, but she has our respect for not hiding her disgust at the judges after the 15to10 competition.
Meteor Shower seems to have already lost the dramatic category before it even started. Super Girls’ scriptwriters are probably way better. What other drama has the music, the dancing, the pretty girls, the tears, the triumphs, the unsung heroes, the evil henchmen, and of course, the righteous Judge Bao (somebody on baidu tried to link his heritage to Judge Bao Qingtian) like Super Girls?
Li Xiaoyun, you know, on this stage, playing the guitar on this stage is very dangerous. But I want to thank you for reminding me of someone. Her name is Wang Zhixin, and she once sung a song called Match Heaven. I once said her music striked straight into the heart. I want to thank her and thank you.
I cried the moment he mentioned Wang Zhixin. But wow, if last week’s comment about “protective forces” wasn’t direct enough, this week’s comment about the guitar is way too obvious. (He’s hinting at the fact that Wang Zhixin got kicked out so she wouldn’t compete with Zeng Yike as the guitars).
The person who took the heat of the blame for making anyone but Zeng Yike playing the guitar being in danger is the outspoken Gao Xiaosong, who we first became familiar with after he told HIT-5 their song was “outdated” and that “mainland music wasn’t pure because they don’t have enough coastal lines.” It turns out that MT-muzik, the songwriters behind HIT-5’s “Say U love me again” and “I want you to know” actually wrote a song in response to him, titled “Hello, Gao Xiaosong.” It’s well-written, if unpolished.

This year's Super Girls are definitely pretty, but can they sing?
A brief overview of the top 300 of this year’s Super Girls. Note that I haven’t watched every competitions, or even half of it. I watched most of Chengdu, Changsha and online. The rest are viewed only if someone on baidu tieba recommended them. And though there are a lot more good singers, I’ve only picked some that really stood out to me. All opinions are mine.
Best English singers: Yu Kewei and Pan Hongyue
I really love what judge Wu Qixian said about the two of them:
Right now, among those who can sing Western songs so beautifully, but still maintains the identity of Chinese, one is Qi Yu, and the other one is Yu Kewei. Pan Hongyue, you have even more techniques and things to show off than Yu Kewei. Unfortunately, when you sing Western songs, you become no longer Chinese but a foreigner. We can only see an imitation, not a Chinese who can understand the essence of Western music and culture. That’s the difference between Yu Kewei and you. Many may be wowed by your glamour today, but what we really seek is the uniquely Chinese way of expressing our values, spirit and culture, and you need more careful thought on that. I hope you can grow, and understand how much we expect of you.
