CCTV premieres 14 episode drama about China’s COVID-19 response

Heroes in Harm’s Way 最美逆行者 dramatises China’s response to the virus outbreak in Wuhan, and will feature 7 x 2 episode shorts. Leading actors include Chen Shu, Yang Zhigang, Sa Rina, Li Yixiao, Xu Jiao, Kan Qingzi, Cheng Taisen, Niu Junfeng, Ma Tianyu, Su Qing, Han Xue, Zhang Ming’en and Xiao Yan.

The 14 episode anthology series premieres on CCTV-1 tonight. Another COVID-19 drama is also slated to air later this month.

Promo Round-up: Wuxin: The Monster Killer 3

Han Dongjun reprises his role as the monster killer in the third installment of Wuxin: The Monster Killer, and will have a love line with Qingluan (Chen Yao), reincarnation of Yue Qiluo.

The 24 episode drama will release 2 episodes every Tuesday and Wednesday on iQiyi and Tencent (English subs available on both apps).

Wuxin 3 releases stills, adds new cast members

Chen Yao again crossdresses to play Liu Xuanxi, the older brother of a pair of roles she’ll be playing.

Chen Yao will once more crossdress to play a male character in the latest installment of the Wuxin: The Monster Killer series. The series, a story of the undead Wuxin set in the Tang dynasty, released a set of still recently. Han Dongjun returns as the titular Wuxin in the Tang Dynasty, as does Sui Yongliang as Shang Qingtian. The series also announced Tangren regulars Tan Jianci and Ye Qing as well as Ding Qiao and Niu Junfeng as additions to the cast.

Peng Xiaoran and Huang Junjie reenacts The Legend of Demon Cat

From classics like Daming Palace/Palace of Desire and Chinese Paladin to recent films like The Legend of Demon Cat and Cry Me a Sad River, Tencent’s new acting competition Attention, Actors 演员倾就位 combines the best of I am an actor and Phantastic by capturing the actors for a TV performance rather than on stage while still maintaining an one-take rule. Featuring directors Chen Kaige, Li Shaohong, Vicki Zhao Wei, and Guo Jingming, the resulting segments are on average far more watchable than the other two.

Plus, they have some great stills and posters that are better than many dramas and film posters that are wallpaper-worthy. You can watch episode two English subbed here. Zhang Yunlong and Chen Xiaoyun act out Romance in the Rain:

Xu Weizhou, Tan Songyun wrap up filming Dear Mayang Street

Set in 1980s Guangzhou, Dear Mayang Street 亲爱的麻洋街 spans over thirty years, and is a recount ofd the stories of six families that lived on Mayang Street. Xu Weizhou plays a successful police academy student who later drops out and becomes a gangster, Tan Songyun plays the perfect daughter who is loved by everyone, while Niu Junfeng rounds out the love triangle as the sweet and responsible second male lead.

Huang Zitao, Wu Qian in The Brightest Star In The Sky

Huang Zitao plays a pop idol trying to prove his worth (aka himself) in rom-com The Brightest Star In The Sky 夜空中最闪亮的星. Wu Qian plays his assistant-turned-manager and love interest , Yang Zhenzhen.   Huang Zitao is the music producer for the series and his team did the OST.  The series co-stars Niu Junfeng, Cao Xiyue, Zhao Yihuan, and Wang Jinsong.  Two episodes every Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday will be available online beginning March 25th.
