Huang Xiaoming, Yin Zheng sing and romance in new Winter Begonia stills

For a borderline boylove drama, I can’t believe we don’t even have a photo of the two male leads together yet. Huang Xiaoming looks at the top of his game , though.

Peking opera-themed Republican drama Winter Begonia 鬓边不是海棠红 released its first full set of still today while announcing the full cast.   The Yu Zheng-produced series stars Huang Xiaoming, Yin Zheng, Charmaine Sheh , Tan Jianci,  Merxat,  Ma Su,  Bai Bing, Du Chun, Huang Shengyi, Liu Min. Gao Yu’er, Chi Shuai, and Tang Zeng.

Chen Xiao, Du Juan begin a love affair in new teaser for Lost in Love

Chen Xiao with a moustache is my favourite type of Chen Xiao.

Du Juan (Wine War) plays an interior designer who believes in fairy tale romances, even though her own marriage is on the verge of falling apart. On a trip to Paris, she meets and falls head-over-heels in love with a violinist, played by Chen Xiao (Nothing Gold Can Stay).

Sheng Yilun reporting back on the Republic’s biggest actresses

Dear Chinese producers: I will come up with English titles for you for free if you fire your current ones.

Sheng Yilun is the youngest by a lot in “Shanghai Picked Flowers 十里洋场拾年花
“, a series that focuses on female celebs in the Republican era, except the main lead is male. Sheng Yilun plays a reporter reporting on all the happenings in the Republican Shanghai world of romance, and intrigue. The posters are nice, and the premise and cast seems promising, let’s hope they don’t botch it.

The Legend of Miyue nears end

There are a number of problems for me in this drama, including plot holes, exaggerations that make me question realism, stereotypes about “nomadic” life that contradict what I am reading here (seems like the Yiqu were a bit more settled than depicted although surprisingly, the love affair seems to have actually happened so I can’t argue with that), and characters bent on short-term gratification that again make me question realism.

The Legend of Miyue has a couple more antique stills as it nears the end of its broadcast.  Starring Sun Li, Liu Tao, Huang Xuan, Jiang Xin, Ma Su, Gao Yunxiang, and Alex Fong, the drama has picked up pace near the end but I still feel there are problems with this drama that keep it from being what it could be.
