This final trailer is awesome:
The characters of The Legend of Condor Heroes come back alive in modern times in medical procedural jianghu romance drama Small Doctor 小大夫. The series will star Dong Zijian (Like a Flowing River), Zhang Jiani (The Story of Yanxi Palace) , Liu Mintao (The Rise of the Phoenixes) , and Li-Chun Lee (The Family). Synopsis below:
Guo Jing (Dong Zijian) is an unassuming but studious doctor from the borders (I’m going to make a wild guess and say it’s Inner Mongolia) who falls for the prettiest and brightest young doctor, Huang Rong (Zhang Jiani). As the two support each other in their journies of self-fulfillment, they’re faced with the opposition of Guo Jing’s boss and Huang Rong’s older sister (Liu Mintao). Li-Chun Lee joins the cast (probably as Hong Qigong?).
I know that Kung-fu Hustle paid royalties to Jin Yong for using his characters, but I’m suspicious about the legitimacy of this one and the other modern AU drama, The Legend of Brown Sugar Chivalries.
The series is directed by Lu Lunchang (The Master of the House) and scriptwriter is Wang Xiaoqiang (The Mask ). Filming began last week.
A round of applause for The Sound Season 2, guys. The variety show has invited four of my favourite actresses – Wan Qian (Tribes and Empires, Lost in 1949), Liu Mintao (The Disguiser, upcoming The Love of Hypnosis), Qin Hailu (Red Sorghum, White Deer Plain) and Li Qin (White Deer Plain, Princess Agents)– to participate in the fourth episode, which airs on the 15th.
Standardized Life 标化人生 is an upcoming workplace drama starring Wu Jinyan (Hear the Bells Ring on Shanghai Bund) as Zhang Xiaoyu, the plucky new assistant to Yin Tao’s (The Years You Were Late) Lin Rui, SW company’s smart and capable sales director and the most likely candidate to take over the position of leader from Shu Wanting (Liu Mintao).
Upcoming family drama Over the Sea I Come To You 带着爸爸去留学 stars Sun Honglei as a father who saves up every little penny to fund his son’s studies abroad, and is forced to join his son (Zeng Shunxi) on his exchange to the US after his wife’s visa is rejected.
The trailer for supernatural Republican romance drama The Love of Hypnosis (previously Records of Nanyan Studio) features Liu Yifei as a mysterious perfume shop owner with a split personality. There’s the normal Lu Mansheng, and then there’s the second persona Ye Moluo, who seems to gain the upper hand in the latter half of the series, and has a love-hate relationship with male lead Ye Shen (Jing Boran).
Did anyone count how many kiss scenes they had?
The Rise of Phoenixes streams with English subtitles on Netflix beginning today here. The series is the first ancient drama brought in as a “Netflix original” and stars Chen Kun, Ni Ni, Ni Dahong, Liu Mintao, Zhang Xiaochen, and Bai Jingting.
Here’s a bunch of stills and posters that have been released since the show begun airing other than the ones we’ve already posted, like Chen Kun’s color palette and Ni Ni’s costumes. The show also has a great OST, including Helpless 奈何 by Sam Lee, How did we become so helpless 何奈何 by Ni Ni, Like Yesterday 如昨 by Liu Xijun, and Schemes 心机 by Wang Xiaomin. A couple more behind-the-scenes stuff have also been released since the last round-up. Watch them here and here.
Horror thriller series Madhouse 疯人院 is getting mad reviews, but I still have no idea what it’s about or if it’s good or not because I heard it’s scary and I’m a scaredy cat. It stars Liu Chang, Lu Shan, Mei Ting, and Liu Mintao.
The posters and episode titles sounds great though, my favorites are Spontaneous Human Combustion and Walking Specimens. The later sounds like a blockbuster horror film title. Watch it on Youtube here.
