Missing Persons revolves around the six people who become stuck at the bottom of a mysterious valley after a horrific car crash. The 12 episode sci-fi mystery stars Lv Yulai, Liu Chang, Chen Xiaoyun and Chen Haoyu (currently in cult hit I Don’t Want To Be Friends With You).
The 12 episode miniseries is written and directed by Wang Ruixin, one of the writers who worked on 2015’s Evil Minds.
The official remake of hit K-drama Misaeng, The Ordinary Glory stars Mark Chao as the workaholic team leader who takes the intern Sun Yiqiu (Bai Jingting) under his wing.
Horror thriller series Madhouse 疯人院 is getting mad reviews, but I still have no idea what it’s about or if it’s good or not because I heard it’s scary and I’m a scaredy cat. It stars Liu Chang, Lu Shan, Mei Ting, and Liu Mintao.
The posters and episode titles sounds great though, my favorites are Spontaneous Human Combustion and Walking Specimens. The later sounds like a blockbuster horror film title. Watch it on Youtube here.
Based on the fourth book Scavenger 清道夫, popular Sohu-produced web drama Dr. Qin Medical Examiner 法医秦明2: 清道夫 is returning for a second season, and stars Liu Dongqin (I’m Not A Monster) as Qin Ming, Liu Chang (Women in Beijing) as cop-buddy Lin Tao and Yu Shasha (The Imperial Doctress) as Qin Ming’s quirky new assistant Chen Shiyu.
I’m a bit disappointed the original cast couldn’t return, but this teaser looks pretty good.
Love the costumes and the chemistry, not so much the plot.
With the perfect amount of bright colors and modern silhouettes without looking tacky, The King’s Woman 秦时丽人明月心 first caught my eyes because of its look (and Dilraba). The series is adapted from the prequel to animation Qin’s Moon and retells the attempted assassination of Ying Zheng (Zhang Binbin), the king who’ll eventually become China’s first emperor, by Jing Ke (Liu Chang), modified to become a huge love triangle featuring Gongsun Li (Dilraba).
The series opens with some classic clichés that they work in with mixed ability, including but not limited to having a long-lost childhood true love that you’ve only met once, no one recognizing the female lead is female, accidentally sharing a bed, the rich guy pretending his underling is his superior because we all know relationships that start with lies end well, and one or more lead’s guardian dying, but not before reminding them to hate their romantic interest for their parents’ sins.
Zhang Binbin is surprisingly (to me) the best actor of the bunch, and nails all the romance scenes, be it awkward first meetings, head over heels in love, or possessive creep. Continue reading
For some reason, many dramas have chosen to go with a poetic seven-character title format, and The King’s Woman 秦时丽人明月心 is the latest show to follow suit. Starring Dilraba and Zhang Binbin (costars in Pretty Li Huizhen, TLTWTMPB), the upcoming drama tells of the fictional love story between Concubine Li and China’s first Emperor.
It’s rare that we see a drama set in this time period in the last couple of years…
