Yu Zheng joins Zhang Ziyi as judge on I Am An Actor

Season 4 of I Am An Actor features Zhang Ziyi, Yu Zheng and director Derek Tsang (Soul Mate, Better Days) as the main judges, and actors Zhang Songwen (The Bad Kids), Hao Lei (Sheep Without A Shepherd) and Li Chengru (who is known for being too honest on Tencent’s acting show) as the coaches. To be honest, I’m more interested in the drama and constructive criticism that will be coming from the judge’s corner. Out of the 33 contestants, I’ll be watching out for the talented Liu Duanduan (Joy of Life) and Li Meng (The Bad Kids).

The variety show premieres tonight.

Crime thriller The Bad Kids releases Wong Kar-wai-style stills

The drama was filmed in the seaside city of Zhanjiang.

It’s not even halfway through 2020 but I’m 95% certain I’ve already found my favourite drama of the year. The Bad Kids is directed by Xin Shuang, and revolves around three kids who blackmail a murderer (Qin Hao).

Photoshoot Round-up: Photographer Luo Yang

Photographer Luo Yang is one of the fastest-rising fashion photographers in the past year, a year with a lot of diverse, young photographers hitting the scene. Her photoshoot with Chun Xia was voted the best fashion magazine cover of year by fans and a panel of professionals, and imo it’s well-deserved.  Here are some of her works, including with Ma Sichun, Jiang WenliXiao Wen Ju, Zhong Chuxi, Chun Xia, Chen Feiyu, Li Meng, and Jing Tian.

The rawness captured in her photoshoots bring an unique perspective to the fashion magazine photography scene. I also love how her photoshoots subtly shows  Chinese influences without making it in-your-face.  It’s a part of what I see as a growing movement by Chinese artists to move away from the bold, explicit cultural elements like in the works of Chen Man. Another recent example is the embroidery Beauty Portraits by Leslie Zhang and Liu Zongyuan.

Beauty Portraits for five rising actresses

Li Qin’s fan-shaped earrings with a hand makes me want to get my ears pierced

Five up-and-rising actresses pose for a  set of  photoshoots with traditional Chinese embroidery for a new take on the traditional Chinese painting style of Beauty Portraits.  The pieces borrowed from the Taizhou Museum of Embroidery isn’t featured that much, but at least the actresses are beautiful.

They are: Li Qin (Princess Agents) , Yang Caiyu (Youth),  Zhong Chuxi ( Youth), Xin Zhilei (Brotherhood of Blades II), and Li Meng (A Better Tomorrow 2018).

Which photos are the best?
