One of the perks of the Republican era is for costume designers to go to town combining Western and Eastern “looks.”
More stills for Tai-chi Master: The Ultimate Gateway have come out. Starring Kevin Cheng, Tang Yixin, Lin Youwei, Yuan Bingyan, Bai Bing, Ying Haoming, Huang Wenhao, He Zhonghua, Maggie Siu, Zou Tingwei, Hao Zejia, Wang Yao, and Jing Feng, those looking forward to this drama can get a taste of the sets and costumes.
Now that everybody is going retro, suspenders = hawt.
Tai-chi Master: The Ultimate Gatewayhas released stills of the actual drama. Starring Kevin Cheng, Tang Yixin, Lin Youwei, Yuan Bingyan, Bai Bing, Ying Haoming, Huang Wenhao, He Zhonghua, Maggie Siu, Zou Tingwei, Hao Zejia, Wang Yao, and Jing Feng, this this allows us to take a look at the sets and get a sense of the costumes in action.

Starring Kevin Cheng, Tang Yixin, Lin Youwei, Yuan Bingyan, Bai Bing, Ying Haoming, Huang Wenhao, He Zhonghua, Maggie Siu, Zou Tingwei, Hao Zejia, Wang Yao, and Jing Feng, some of these stills are making this drama pretty tempting, even though I usually avoid Republican era dramas due to some… errr… creative costuming preferences I’ve seen evolve and the history of the time period.
I don’t usually do Republican era dramas but these stills are nice.
Tai-chi Master: The Ultimate Gateway has released stills for Kevin Cheng. Starring Kevin Cheng, Tang Yixin, Lin Youwei, Yuan Bingyan, Bai Bing, Ying Haoming, Huang Wenhao, He Zhonghua, Maggie Siu, Zou Tingwei, Hao Zejia, Wang Yao, and Jing Feng, this drama is another martial arts drama set in the Republican era feature plots such as revenge and dealing with Japanese occupation during the second world war.
Ye Zhen, the female lead of the series, is played by Lin Yuan and has yet to make an appearance in the stills. Isn’t this gorgeous?
Concept art is gorgeous; artists can get away with colorful costumes and unusual hair coloring much more easily than directors can. You can enjoy some gorgeous art for City of Hopeless Love (more here) at the end of the post. (Loads of stills under the cut today).
On another note, stills for Guo Zhenni‘s chapter, “Thirteenth Moon,” have recently been released. Guo Zhenni plays a pair of twin sisters, one who is the assassin Yingge. Her sister marries her first love, while the male lead of this subplot accidentally marries Yingge. Although he finds out about the deception, he ends up wholly in love with her (within three days!?). He becomes willing sacrifice all for her; ie, protecting her man(?) and ultimately dying of poison in order to protect her. I’m waiting for the actual drama to come out to learn where the dream weaving comes in. Continue reading →
Celebrities flocked to Weibo this week in order to call followers’ attention to the 7.0-magnitude earthquake that hit Ya’an on April 20th. Whether it was sharing ways to help, urging fans to donate their money or time, or simply posting words of comfort, a bunch of stars made noteworthy Weibo posts. We unfortunately can’t reproduce all of them, but hopefully we’ve gotten some of the more memorable ones.
If I can only find reality in this dream, then what’s more real? – Jiang Xin plays the Little Mermaid to Yuan Hong’s Prince, who mistook another girl for his savior.
Following the journey of a revived princess who weaves dreams for those in need, novel 华胥引 Hua Xu Yin joins the latest batch of novels to be made into television series. Each episode focuses on a story of a misunderstood love, with the revealed leads so far being Yuan Hong, Jiang Xin, Guo Zhenni, He Gang and Gao Hao. String the story together are Lin Yuan and Kevin Cheng, the princess and prince of enemy kingdoms who get caught in dreams of their own.
My favorite out of these shoots is definitely Yao Chen with all of her gold gauze and solar sparkles, seen below. Li Bingbing is intense even when she’s eating noodles – so intense, in fact, that the noodles are slipping off of the plate with the intensity. That’s one of the poses she made for her recent photoshoot with Madame Figaro (you can find a few pictures from that below the cut). Also included in this week’s round up is Zhao Wei, looking elegant and composted for ELLE. Yang Mi, who appeared in ELLE in one of the earlier round ups, now hops over to the Bella magazine with a very sweet and down-to-earth style. Actor Lu Yi and his wife Bao Lei are also included in a couple photoshoot for fashion weekly, and Kevin Cheng looks meditative in the photoshoot that we finish off this round-up with. (He is also posing for ELLE, although he’s much more manly than the title of the magazine.)
