I Am A Singer finale duets revealed (all the rumours were wrong)

Seven singers have been invited to perform with the seven I Am A Singer finalists. Some of them have appeared on the show before.

Xie Ziming 谢子明, an entertainment magazine editor and Bibi Zhou’s I Am A Singer agent for this week, leaked the list of celebrity guests for the show’s final round on his Weibo account yesterday. Basically, none of the rumours we had heard were correct.

The "singing helpers" guest list for the finals is said to be: JJ Lin, Khalil Fong, Zhang Jiayi, Julian chen, Shin, Huang Qishan, Tan Weiwei. It seems like an odd little "intrusion." How they correspond to the seven singers is still unknown, but we do know that Friday night's show will be on the air for three hours, almost as long as the Spring Festival Gala. Who will @Bibi sing with? (I really have no idea.)

To the disappointment of some fans, the revelation quashed earlier rumours of possible appearances by Jane Zhang and Wang Leehom. Later reports paired the guest singers with the I Am A Singer finalists. (more…)

Weibo Wednesday: August 14, 2013

Apologies for being so MIA with Weibo Wednesday recently! Luckily, Weibo posts can be enjoyed whenever and wherever, so here’s a look at some posts from the past month or so. First up we have Yang Mi and Ma Tianyu, who became sisters-of-sorts while filming Gu Jian Qi Tan (古剑奇谭).

Even the most familiar rumored couple cannot resist our becoming sisters one day

Weibo Wednesday: May 8-May 15

A 54-foot-tall inflatable duck arrived in Hong Kong earlier this month, though it unfortunately had to be deflated after a while due to strong winds. It’s all JJ Lin‘s fault.

林俊杰: 對不起,我不是故意嚇你的

I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to scare you

Ah well, at least he put up this really cute post to celebrate Mother’s Day:

YinYueTai’s 1st Awards Show

Look! It's Chinese, It's English, it's bilingual logo!
Look! It’s Chinese, It’s English, it’s bilingual logo!

Yinyuetai have been steadily gaining love from fans since it’s opening in 2009 due to its high definition MVs and reliance. The legal music video promotion site have also gained much support from music professionals; not only are the MVs legally uploaded by the company, but fans can also use the site to share fancams of their favorite eye-candy. After realizing the popularity of the weekly/monthly V-Chart ranking among fans, yinyuetai decided to have a REAL award show (where artists actually go on stage and perform and accept awards in front of fans!)

In a music award show the performance is always the best part! So let’s start off with some cute and pretty fluffs:

Popu Lady, who were probably present to represent their shijie S.H.E (Best Group Award for TW/HK region) performed Lady First from their debut EP. The performance by the ladies is followed by the equally pretty boys from TimeZ and the party boys from MIC. (more…)

郭敬明: 我的手太短了啦….本来想取个全一点的景….

Guo Jingming may be super busy with directing the Tiny Times film, but he’ll never be too busy to post pretty pictures of himself on Weibo. Unfortunately, he might have to reconsider doing selcas, hehehe.

My arms are too short…. Originally, I wanted to take a photo with more of the scenery….

JJ Lin’s new song The Dark Knight has its own mini-movie

JJ Lin and Taiwanese band May Day’s first collaboration, The Dark Knight 黑暗骑 was accompanied by a gloomy mini-movie; warning, the thirty-minute film revolves around suicide and the angsting appropriate for such a dark topic. Part one of the film is found here; part two can be seen here. For the song itself, JJ Lin and Ashin (Mayday) provided the vocals, with JJ Lin composing the music. Mayday also contributed to the tune and the performance (of the instruments)(?)

Celebrity microblogger, Liang Huan, ranks Chinese singers

Almost 20 years since her passing, is Teresa Teng still the best Chinese singer?

Last week, Liang Huan 梁欢, who is probably a man, compiled a list of Chinese singers on her his Weibo, allocating points in increments of five, alongside some brutally honest criticism (e.g., Jolin Tsai: “dance moves accompanied by bad vocals”). Since then, her his post has been retweeted—or the Weibo equivalent—tens of thousands of times. Some fans, notably those of Han Geng, have derided the low scores of their idols.

Li Yuchun still the queen of EE Media

chris-photo9c-whyme2009

JJ Lin’s accompaniment, Andy Lau’s dance teacher, Madonna’s designer, and…Chris Lee?

Why not? On March 21, 2009, Chris Lee dance battled with JJ Lin, wore costumes by Tuleh’s Bryan Bradley and smiled at the sea of yellow.

How does she and her team do it? This started out as a companion piece to EE Media’s weaknesses (the He Jie article), but it’s also a celebration of Li Yuchun’s own strengths, which in fact, are EE Media’s own forte.

Let’s dance

Popularity by the numbers

What’s the most fair way to count popularity?
Baidu, mainland’s biggest search engine, thinks it’s by search results.
On the 20th, Baidu held its 3rd annual Hunan TV-Baidu Search Awards at the Water Cube.
CFensi brings you some of the best performances and speeches from the H3O.

Vicki Zhao Wei – Most popular actress; upon viewing a video summary of her ten years as an actress:

My greatest reward is that I found the meaning to my life. I think living in this world, everyone has a purpose in their lives, be it the the feeling of parents to their child or a doctor to his patients. In these ten years, I found the value in my life. Although my purpose is not as amazing as that of a scientist, but I think my life was a worthwhile one.

Chen Kun – most popular male actor

Actually, I’m late to mature. I always thought that I should act in roles that I want to, like in Mei Lan Fang, but unfortuantely I missed it. I realized that in life, there are other roles we must act as. Thank you to everyone who has supported me to this day. Whether you’re a fan of my acting, singing, or you’re just someone who silently supports me, I hope you’ll continue to support me. I’ll do my best for you guys, because I learned to enjoy my profession now.

New Years All Across China and Taiwan

The fearless Jane Zhang

Thanks to Bluelily for making a new banner for January!

So this is a little late, but I tried to wait to see if I could find any videos of certain people I liked but that didn’t happen. Chinese people need to support Chinese artists and put up HQ videos. Seriously. I have little time on my hands so what I have here are mostly vids that others bothered to put up.

China is really way too big . There were too many choices this year. CCTV, the main national channel had its own New Years shindig targeted toward the elderly demographic. In addition to this Jiangsu, Hunan, Zhejiang, and Dragon TV were four of the bigger stations vying for the younger viewers. There were also lots of smaller stations. I feel sorry for Americans, who only have parades to watch for their big holidays.
