Happy New Year! There’s plenty of dramas premiering over the next few days, so I thought I’d cover them all in the same post. Which ones are you looking forward to watching the most?
On a side note, I just started watching time-loop drama Reset, and it’s pretty good so far. It’s not the thriller I was expecting, though I do like how it spends time developing the backstories of the other bus passengers as well. Plus, it’s only 15 episodes long – what can go wrong? Try the first episode here.
Mirror: A Tale of Twin Cities 镜:双城 – 2 episodes every Sunday to Wednesday beginning Jan 16th on Youku, Tencent (WeTV)
The fantasy angsty romance drama stars Li Yifeng as King of the Seas who wants to lead his enslaved people to freedom. Chen Yuqi plays the queen of the noble Bai clan, and Zheng Yecheng costars as the crown prince of the ruling kingdom (and the third wheel).
Dream Garden 沉睡花园 follows the romance between a tsundere psychologist (Gong Jun) and an influencer who gives relationship advice online (Qiao Xin). The 16 episode drama airs Mon-Wed on Hunan TV’s evening time slot.
The Legend of Xiao Chuo stars Tang Yan, Charmaine Sheh and Lu Shan as sisters who marry into three different branches of the royal family, and eventually find themselves in a deadly power struggle. Shawn Dou plays a powerful general and Xiao Chuo’s true love, while Jing Chao plays her husband.
The 48 episode drama airs daily on Beijing TV. Tencent VIP members will be able to watch 8 episodes on the first day.
The Legend of Xiao Chuo has released more stills featuring Tang Yan, Shawn Dou, Charmaine Sheh and Jing Chao. Historical romances are my thing, so fingers crossed the drama will be released within the month.

Tang Yan and Shawn Dou look amazing in the first stills of their latest drama together, The Legend of Xiao Chuo 燕云台.The drama follows the life of Liao dynasty empress Xiao Yanyan (Tang Yan), her advisor (Shawn Dou) and emperor (Jing Chao). The drama recently concluded filming and is expected to air late 2020. [Extended Synopsis]
All of Zhang Xueying outfits look meticulously designed while still looking natural.
Princess Silver easily has my favorite costume and make-up so far this year. Zhang Xueying alone has over 40 outfits, every one of which looks beautiful on her. I’m on the fence about the one dress with ruffles, but every other outfit for all the leads does a great job of using pastels, patterns, fabric , and small modifications to give the series a unique look while making it still look within the realm of hanfu.
Princess Silver stars Zhang Xueying (Summer’s Desire) as Rong Le, a princess who wants to take control of her own destiny. Her suitors are played by Aarif Lee(Swords of Legends II), Jing Chao (Ruyi’s Royal Love) and Luo Yunxi (Ashes of Love).[Extended Synopsis]
The 60 episode drama releases 2 episodes every Wednesday to Saturday on Tencent.
…Except their previous drama See You Againstill hasn’t secured an air date.
The Legend of Xiao Chuo 燕云台 chronicles the life of Xiao Yanyan (Tang Yan), the most powerful woman of the Liao dynasty. Shawn Dou plays her childhood sweetheart and main love interest Han Derang, who becomes the most influential Han official in the Liao court.
