Jane Zhang Invites You to Fulfill Your Dreams

Jane Zhang at Disneyland

Jane Zhang: I know that this gesture is very unsophisticated, but at the same time, I know that when I make this gesture, I am very happy. Confusing? Don’t worry about it. #张靓颖梦想计划# #我是我的#

Fulfilling one’s dreams is a pretty common theme when it comes to music, but Jane Zhang is taking it one step further with her new single, “I Am Mine” (我是我的), and her Worldwide Dream Plan, which she kick-started by visiting Disneyland on February 18th. Following her visit to the Anaheim, CA theme park, Jane will travel to a different place each month for the entire year in order to fulfill a dream or take on an interesting challenge.

But there is a twist! Instead of focusing on her own dreams, Jane is inviting her fans to share their dreams with her through Sina Weibo or its short-video app Miaopai. To participate, fans have the option of posting a photo of themselves doing something similar to Jane while adding the hashtags #张靓颖梦想计划# (Jane Zhang’s Dream Plan) and #我是我的# (Mine Mine). Those who aren’t photograph-inclined can simply like, forward, or comment on Jane’s posts.

Participants will then get the opportunity to make a wish and let Jane fulfill their dream for them! Each month, 20 lucky winners will also receive a postcard handwritten by Jane herself.

Weibo Wednesday: April 3-10

Welcome to Weibo Wednesday! With this new feature, we’re hoping to expose readers to some of the cuteness, funniness, and downright weirdness that sometimes pops up on Sina Weibo. Even if you don’t have a Weibo or don’t understand Chinese, you can still follow along. And if you have your own favorite Weibo posts from this past week, feel free to share them in the comments!

This week:

于波: 二郎有情!三郎有意!今朝有酒今朝醉,今朝没酒喝"白开水",有时候有时候,宁愿选择不放手,等到风景都看透,也许你会陪我看细水长流。晚一天的愚人节快乐!于波敬上。

Period war movie Saving General Yang (忠烈杨家将) opened in theaters this past Thursday to much general excitement, due to all the hot guys in it. All of the Yang family sons got along very well on set, but Vic Chou (third son) and Yu Bo (second son) get bonus points for fanservice.

Erlang [second son] and Sanlang [third son] are good friends!* If there is wine right now, then right now is when we’ll get drunk. If there is no wine right now, then we’ll drink plain water. Sometimes, sometimes, I would rather choose not to let go, and wait until I see beyond the scenery. Maybe you will keep me company as I go about this little by little. A belated Happy April Fool’s Day! Sincerely, Yu Bo.

* Can also be interpreted to mean they’re interested in each other.

Jane Zhang writes I believe

Yes to redying your hair black, no to the bangs.

Jane Zhang sung her new song “I believe” live for the first time yesterday. “I believe” is her first album song to be penned by her (lyrics and maybe music?). Jane writes about her experiences since being an artist and how “I believe” came about. This song is definitely a step up from her previous non-themesong music, and I hope it’ll be representative of her album.

Once I played an unimportant role…. Suddenly, one day, everyone around me looked at me, and that made me scared… So I was always hiding. Sometimes, when there are too many eyes starring at me, to the point where I can’t see past beyond them, I would close my eyes. Too foreign a place, too many foreign faces, too many foreign paths.

-Jane Zhang

Translation of her blog post on I believe below the cut.

Hi Jane, Welcome to the Universal Family

On Monday, Jane Zhang and Universal Music held a press conference for their joining on the anniversary of Faye Wong’s debut. In attendance were our beautiful Jane, Eason Chan, legendary lyricist Lin Xi and Universal Music Asia VP Sam Hole.

It’s uncertain how Universal will affect Jane’s career. As of now, she has yet received any epic theme songs like she once did under Huayi. Meanwhile, her performance outfits lost their class. Hopefully, those will be temporary and Jane can find what she wants under Universal – ie. more capable composers who don’t simply write for movies but also for her album. A change that Universal is certainly pushing for is the increase of the amount of fast and powerful songs over ballads that Jane will sing. I’m not yet sure how that’ll work with Jane. She has proven to excel at both, but I think it is far easier for her to find good ballads than fast and powerful songs in Asia, which means Universal’s connections will be useful. On the movie theme side, though, it’s unlikely Jane will get as many good ones she once did under Huayi, which is known for major films and series.

Either way, getting a personal message from Mariah Carey was probably worth everything for Jane.

Jane’s new song, unaffiliated with Universal Music:

Mini Chinese Entertainment Updates

Updates because I touched upon all of these topics before. If you don’t believe me, check the tags.

Why didn't I read the script for this before signing the contract?

Why didn't I read the script before agreeing to this movie?

1. Fan Bingbing’s Home Run was the worst-performing movie in recent years with a big-name star. Ouch. But now that she’s a bomb at the box office she’s being compared to Vicky Zhao Wei and I think she’s actually getting a bit more sympathy than she usually does, so not a total loss. Besides…it can’t be all her fault. Chapman To was in it to. Plus the story was just whack.

Chinese Celebrities When They Were Young

I said I would do a special fun post in exchange for someone making my banner when site hit 10,000. Well, here it is as promised, although nobody ever made me a banner. :( This is still incomplete…I don’t have a few people in here, and I wanted to put an after pic of everyone, but I got way too tired of that so I only put some for some people I didn’t think people would know (like all the mainland guys apparently), but eventually I will update this and make it the most comprehensive Chinese celeb baby picture list ever.

Love or hate her, you’ve got to admit Liu Yifei was one of the most adorable children ever.

More of cute adorable children behind the cut. I think it’s really rare for Chinese people to do plastic surgery (as of now) so this won’t be one of those “spot the differences” posts. This took a lot of time and effort to put together, so PLEASE DO NOT COPY AND POST ANYWHERE ELSE, w/o permission.
