Poster for sci-fi thriller Deep Sea by Tian Xiaopeng (Monkey King: The Hero’s Back)

In 2015, when Monkey King: The Hero’s Back first proved that Chinese animation could break into the mainstream film market, Enlight Media quickly made plans to make its mark in the up-and-coming industry. In the interim years, the newly created firm Coloroom Pictures worked on 22 upcoming films and released other successful animated films such as My Name. In 2019, the company finally came out with its first self-produced project – Ne Zha, which has so far been smashing box office records.

The Gods has released more posters.  Starring Luo Jin, Wang Likun, Tang Yixin, Yu Hewei, and Zhang Bo, those waiting on this drama can take a look since it has been a while since we posted about this production.

The Gods releases really shiny stills

I’ve got a weapon and I know how to use it!

The Gods has released stills again for Luo Jin.  Also starring Wang LikunTang Yixin, Yu Hewei, and Zhang Bo, I really don’t know how I feel about this drama now.  Maybe the sets will help but some of them look a bit too creative, shiny, glitzy, bright, etc. for my tastes.

Ying’er takes a go as the foxy(?) Daji

Sigh… with the way things are going, eyeliner has come to indicate ravaging beauty in dramas…

Korean-Chinese collaboration The Gods has competition in the fantasy-comedy Ne Zha and Yang Jian, starring Wong Cho-lam, Gao Yunxiang, Ying’er, Linda Chung, and Chen Zihan.  Both dramas being based on Investiture of the Gods, it will be interesting to see the different takes on the story. Though, in my opinion, some of the costuming in this version varies widely from interesting to okay to groans…

Stills have been released for Maritime Silk Road, starring Yan YikuanAdy AnSiqin Gaowa, and Zheng Yihan.  This drama deals with maritime exploration during the reign of Wu Zetian, court intrigue, assassination attempts, mystery etc.  There is a trailer but I did not find it to be that interesting so far.  Some of the materials released so far have been a bit disappointing in my opinion…
