I can count on one hand how many dramas I watched from beginning to end, so I’ve decided to do things differently this year and shine the spotlight on the characters that I really liked. Feel free to submit your own reviews and posts here.
Just in case two episodes of Serenade of Peaceful Joy isn’t enough Wang Kai per day.
Based loosely on the real operation of the same name, Hunting 猎狐 features Wang Kai,Wang Ou, and Hu Jun working on a new financial crime operation to repatriate economic fugitives who have fled abroad. The series is written by Zhao Dongling (Once Upon a Time in Tsingtao) and directed by Liu Xin (The King’s Woman). Liu Yijun, Deng Jiajia, Fu Jing, and Wang Tonghui co-stars, while Zhao Ziqi and Liu Jun guest stars.
The series will be airing two episodes on weekdays and one episode on weekends. It should be available on this Youtube channel.

As Tencent is making its way to Thailand and iQiyi partners with Malaysia, another group of Chinese media firms have already settled in Africa. Since 2007, Beijing-based media company Star Times has established itself in over 30 African countries with 26 million users. The company is also working with Chinese and African governments to provide tv access to underserved rural communities in twenty-five African countries. The company offers two channels featuring Chinese dramas – SinoDrama and Star Times Kung Fu. Star Times have has also held competitions to bring African acting talents to its Beijing Campus to translate and dub everything from Latin American telenovelas to Thai dramas into English, French, Portuguese, Swahili, Hausa, Zulu, Yoruba and Luganda.
Over the past month, the heads of Daylight Entertainment (Nirvana in Fire, Ode to Joy) and Linmon Entertainment (A Little Separation, Hunting) and the cast of Ode to Joy attended events in Uganda, Kenya, and Tanzania as a part of the Chinese-African audio-video exchange to discuss further collaboration between Chinese and African media companies.
Their visit follows the filming of the first Chinese drama made in collaboration with the Kenyan government last month, Wang Kai and Wang Ou’s upcoming crime thriller Hunting.

Hunting stars Wang Kai as an economic crimes detective who is responsible for uprooting a corrupt business empire led by Wang Bolin (Liu Yijun). From the trailer, the main antagonist may be involved in the death of the heroine’s (Wang Ou) mother and recruitment of the hero’s first love (Deng Jiajia).

Cross-border economic crime thriller Hunting 猎狐, which began filming this week, released a pre-production teaser. Pre-production reportedly took three years, including trips abroad to make the script more realistic. Leads Wang Kai and Wang Ou even spent a few days with the economic crime unit in Tianjin to get some real-life experience. The series co-stars Hu Jun and Liu Yijun.
It’s a The Disguiser reunion! Wang Kai, Wang Ou, Liu Yijun and Hu Jun have been cast in Linmon Pictures’ upcoming modern thriller Hunting 猎狐, a drama that revolves around the investigation of cross-border economic crimes. It’s loosely based on the “Sky Net Investigation 天网行动” that sent over a hundred Interpol red notices for mostly corruption crimes.
