Starring Huang Zitao and Zhang Xueying, Republican drama Hot-Blooded Youth 热血少年 / Files of Teenagers in the Concession 租界少年热血档案 focuses on the incredible journey of a group of idealistic youths who are willing to sacrifice personal gains for the greater good of the country.
The 30 episode drama will release 2 episodes every Tuesday to Friday on iQiyi – English subs will probably be available on its app.
Huang Zitao plays a pop idol trying to prove his worth (aka himself) in rom-com The Brightest Star In The Sky 夜空中最闪亮的星. Wu Qian plays his assistant-turned-manager and love interest , Yang Zhenzhen. Huang Zitao is the music producer for the series and his team did the OST. The series co-stars Niu Junfeng, Cao Xiyue, Zhao Yihuan, and Wang Jinsong. Two episodes every Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday will be available online beginning March 25th.
Here are some recent photoshoots of people being cute together, featuring Ma Sichun X Jing Boran, Wu Lei X Chun Xia, Zhang Tian’ai X Huang Zitao, Zhao Wei X Alec Su, Wu Jinyan X Xu Kai, Zhang Yuxi X Kenji Chen, and Zhu Zhiling X Li Gengxi. Which couple has the most chemistry?
Based on Han Lu’s manhua of the same name, Yanshifan: New Youth 艳势番之新青年 is an upcoming Republican era drama starring Jackson Yi Yangqianxi (Song of Phoenix), Huang Zitao (Chinese Odyssey: Love You For Ten Thousand Years) and Hu Bingqing (Midnight Diner).
I am not surprised producers are continuing to milk the cow that is The Interpreters, because it brings in the ratings, and they know that’s where the money comes from. The spin-off is titled The Negotiators 谈判官, and like its predecessor, starts off as a bickering rom-com between two professionals before descending into melodramatic territory in the second half.
It’s Weibo Wednesday time! I didn’t pay much attention to this year’s Academy Awards, which took place on February 28, but it looks like quite a few Chinese celebs did. Here we have Li Yifeng congratulating Leonardo DiCaprio for finally winning a Best Actor award. In case you’re wondering what is going on, he’s spoofing a scene in The Revenant where Leo gets attacked by a bear.
In other Hollywood news, Li Yifeng was picked as an ambassador for the superhero movie Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, which drops in the U.S. and in mainland China on March 25. However, I’m not entirely clear on what his being an ambassador entails. Yifeng also has two TV series — espionage drama Sparrow (麻雀) and xianxia drama Noble Aspirations (青云志) — expected to be released this year.
I was feeling iffy about the film version of You Are My Sunshine, but both the character posters and the trailer have looked so good that I’m actually really looking forward to this.
The trailer released today focuses mostly on our leads played by Yang Mi and Huang Xiaoming, following them back in time through their seven years apart. It also has glimpses of the supporting cast of Angelababy, Tong Dawei, model He Sui, EXO’s Huang Zitao, Xie Yilin, Li Chen, Ma Su, Sun Yizhou, and Joan Chen Chong.
Unapologetic for the story’s simple and pure love story (I still don’t understand how the TV version managed to drag for 40+ episodes ) and poking fun at the recent surge in films about youth love stories that are a bit too similar, the film version of Gu Man’s You Are My Sunshine 何以笙箫默 released its first set of stills this week.
The Enlight film stars Yang Mi, Huang Xiaoming, Angelababy, Tong Dawei, Xie Yilin, and film debuts by EXO’s Huang Zitao and model He Sui. The film is set for a May 1st release.
