Why do these guys all dress so much better in photoshoots than in the show.
The New Meteor Garden series has released a trailer. How does it compare the previous gazillion versions?

The new F4 already going for a Japanese boyband aesthetic. Bets on if they’ll become a boyband?
The cast of New Meteor Garden may still be unknowns, but they’re already doing more photoshoots than most actors. They sure seem uniformly cute already. The drama is set for a summer Hunan TV release.
Yes, it’s that time again. Welcome to another version of one of the most adapted mangas in Asia – Hana Yori Dango / Boys Over Flowers / Meteor Garden .
Helmed by producer Angie Chai of the original Meteor Garden, New Meteor Garden 新流星花园 recently announced its cast of the four male leads, members of the clique F4. There’s no news on who’s who yet. The four male leads – Connor Leong, Dylan Wang Hedi, Darren Chen, and Caesar Wu Xize – average 21 years old and are all fairly new actors. The female lead is Shen Yue, whose first major drama is only airing this week.
Will the new cast get instant famous like every other cast so far?
Female lead is played by 20-year-old Shen Yue in her second major role.
Despite the influx of fans spamming various forums on Baidu to argue that the “Four Hotties” of My Hero should’ve starred as F4 in a mainland remake of Meteor Garden, the top five of My Hero obviously didn’t care for a role in Meteor Garden.
When asked what they thought of Daoming Si, only Kimi replied positively, saying that he was loyal to his friends. Jing Boran replied “an useless person” and Fu Xinbo said “a bit unintelligent”. If they were Daomingsi, the first thing that both Kimi Qiao and Jing Boran would do is to get a new haircut; Fu Xinbo would start being responsible to his career as well as love; Li Yifeng would become a police officer. Meteor Shower is a co-production between Hunan TV, EE Media and Beijing Chunqiu. The drama plans to be aired this summer. It will be directed by Taiwanese director of “The Outsiders” and the script took the team of Wang Hanlin over a year to finish. EE Media CEO Long Danni stated that “Meteor Garden” is a combination of the best production team from both sides of the strait.
The director of the drama, He Hanchen, is that of the popular Taiwanese series “The Outsiders.” He said that when choosing the actors, he was not forced to pick the Super Boys. Instead, he said that he picked them for their smiles among a group of candidates. When asked about the complaints of the drama before it even began, he replied, ” I don’t care. I only care that this drama will make people cry and laugh. If it can do that, it’s a good drama.”

Okay, so there’s been rumors going around about the new cast of F4, and while I don’t see any hard cold facts, it does seem legit that these four will be playing the Chinese F4, as leaked by a Hunan TV employee. I don’t usually like to post rumors but the final announcement is a month away, and I just wanted an excuse to post pictures and videos of these boys playing instruments. Despite my initial unwillingness to see the Chinese F4 be all from EE/Tianyu’s Superboys, since they aren’t exactly professional actors, and I wanted to see new faces, I think somwhere along the “casting process” I became resigned to the fact that they were going to use people from their own company and this is probably is as good as it gets if it does come to that. I trust Hunan TV to some degree. They’ve made very little misteps in their excellent series, choose people right for the parts, and have great scripts. They said the script was actually already completed so I’m guessing it’s good for this one as well. Continue reading
Ok, so the Taiwanese series obviously had some people speaking Chinese, but what about the Japanese and Korean series? They have a little Chinese in em as well. Thought that was interesting…
Using the “Superboys”.
I’ll update this post and this site with more details as I get them.
I was always wondering if mainland China would film its own Hana Yori Dango. If you follow mainland Chinese television, you quickly come to find that there are the state-wide CCTV productions, which like expensive big-budget series with casts that attended drama universities, etc and then there are the provincial productions like Hunan TV who don’t get quite as much money, but don’t have the restraints CCTV does, about providing moralistic drama with meaning, etc. If China were to have a large amount of meaningless idol dramas, they would come from these local, provincial level stations. So here we are, at the possibility of Hunan remaking Meteor Garden using their “Superboys” aka “Kuai Le Nan Sheng” (the Chinese American Idol-type series for those of you who don’t get my constant references to this).
