Super stylized and slick-looking, Tingxue Tower at least wins the award for the best-looking wuxia series of the year.
Wuxia series Tingxue Tower听雪楼 just released its opening and ending themes by Mickey He. Starring Qin Junjie (Summer’s Desire) and Yuan Bingyan(Ever Night) , the series is a torteous tale of a young woman’s attempt to avenge her parents in a battle that blurs together good and evil. I hope the release of these means that it’ll be released sometimes soon.
The Promise of Chang’an 长安诺 stars Zhao Yingzi(Spy Hunter), Cheng Yi (Noble Aspirations) and Han Dong(Beauties in the Closet) in a love triangle spanning decades, and follows the heroine’s journey from the daughter of a respected tribal leader to the empress dowager of a kingdom.
Are you in bamboo forest? Are you in a wuxia drama? You better watch out!
If you’ve seen Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon or House of Flying Daggersor many recent wuxia-ish dramas such as The Flame’s Daughter, you would know that bamboo forests are great places to pick fights. Here’s a set of photos in the forest from the cast of wuxia drama Tingxue Tower featuring the three lead couples played by Qin Junjie, Yuan Bingyan, Han Chengyu, Angela Yuen, Zhao Dongze, and Lin Yuan.
In an age filled with xianxia (fantasy wuxia) adaptations and re-adaptations of wuxia classics, Tingxue Tower is a rare adaptation of a contemporary wuxia novel.
The rare contemporary wuxia adaptation Tingxue Tower 听雪楼 shows with its new trailer that it’s not just an attempt to revive the dying wuxia genre with a new story, but also seems to be a tribute to last decade’s highly-stylized wuxia films. The trailer has scenes reminiscent of the rain fight in Hero and the bamboo forest fight in Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon and definitely perks my interest.
Production is well underway for Tingxue Tower 听雪楼, the drama adaption of Cang Yue’s popular wuxia novel of the same name. Qin Junjie (Summer’s Desire) plays male protagonist Xiao Yiqing, while Yuan Bingyan(The Mystic Nine) costars as his love interest Shu Jingrong.
What’s better than medieval castles, awesome actors, and Qiong Yao combined? All those, plus dance and music!
Hunan TV’s “flower fields, ancient castle, romantic comedy drama” of the summer, Flowers in Fog 花非花雾非雾, definitely took me by surprise when in episode 2, a number of the main characters, music and dance students in France, broke out in choreographed dance and song.
Given that two of the leads, Zhang Rui and Li Sheng, play music students, they’re also prone to serenades. The best thing is, both actors are actually really good singers and sings all their characters’s songs themselves. Ruby Lin and Joo Jin-mo also find their romance through opera, but I don’t think they sing their own parts.
Watch Zhang Rui and company sing and dance in ep.2。 I’m crossing my fingers that there’ll be more such scenes.
