Watching recent Disney movies’ attempts at showing fighting choreography (instead of just editing a bunch of fast takes together) have really made me realize that for all the surreal moves in Chinese wuxia, they’ve managed to extend physics in a way so that even the casual viewer can discern what looks “right” and what’s “impossible” even though it’s all impossible. Reason #1million why Disney shouldn’t have had an all-white crew.

A new trailer for Disney’s live-action Mulan has been released with a couple more fight scenes and three new lines, including the first by Jet Lee.
Latest trailer for volleyball biopic features the winning team from Rio Olympics

Members of the women’s national volleyball team will be making an appearance in Chinese Women’s Volleyball, which stars Gong Li as coach Lang Ping. Costars include Wu Gang as the coach for the 1984 Olympics team and Huang Bo (with Peng Yuchang as the younger counterpart) as the coach for the 2004 Olympics team.
Mulan live-action releases two new trailers
Disney’s live-action Mulan released two new trailers today. The film is set for a release date of March 27, 2020. It stars Liu Yifei, Gong Li, Donnie Yen, Jet Lee, Jason Scott Lee, and Yoson An.

Gong Li’s volleyball biopic releases first teaser
Here’s our first look at Gong Li as legendary player and coach Lang Ping in Chinese Women’s Volleyball 中国女排 (lit.), an upcoming sports film directed by Peter Chan (Dearest, American Dreams in China). Wu Gang (The Thunder) and Huang Bo (Crazy Alien) costar as the coaches that led the team to victory at the 1984 and 2004 Olympics respectively. The film is scheduled for a 2020 Chinese New Year release.

Gong Li plays a Republican Era diva who doubles as a spy in the Lou Ye-directed Saturday Fiction 兰心大剧院. The film, making its debut today at the Venice Film Festival, released its first full trailer today. It’s also going to be screening at TIFF if you’re in the area.

- Ma Li will star in buddy comedy written by Karen McCullah (Legally Blond, Ella Enchanted, She’s the Man) . Eva Jin (Sophie’s Revenge) will direct. (Deadline)
