XDRAMAsX’s 2017 Drama Review

2017 was a much better year for dramas in general (I’m actually more excited for 2018-2019, as all the movie actors are returning to the small screen), with several shows hitting it out of the park in terms of ratings and/or online popularity.

Web dramas really started to gain traction this year – in fact, I’m marathoning two right now, and each one stands out for various reasons, whether it be high production values or tight storytelling. These online shows have become an outlet for creativity due to the strict censorship rules applied to television dramas, though SARPPFT has decided to nip it in the bud by making web dramas undergo the same rigorous process before premiering online. Hopefully the streaming sites continue to come up with quality fare in the future despite the roadblocks that are being put in place.

WARNING: Long post ahead.

General and I theme song

The song’s really good if you are into the old Chinese feel mixed with some modern instrumentation type.

General and I 孤芳不自賞 stills explosion today and a theme song.  Starring Wallace Chung, Angelababy, Sun Yizhou, Gan Tingting, and Qi Hang, those who are interested in this drama can get a better look through these stills.

New trailer for General and I

Let’s hope the January projection holds through.

General and I 孤芳不自賞 released these character posters a while ago and there’s a new trailer.  Starring Wallace Chung, Angelababy, Sun Yizhou, Gan Tingting, and Qi Hang, hopefully this lends more credibility to the January release date.  Either way, this drama has released quite a few stills lately so expect more in the near future.

Gan Tingting for General and I

I was originally worrying about the costuming and production for this drama but these put my mind to ease.

General and I 孤芳不自賞 has released stills of Gan Tingting.  Starring Wallace Chung, Angelababy, Sun Yizhou, Gan Tingting, and Qi Hang, while the costuming does not seem to follow historical clothing trends that we know of for the period, I would have to argue that this is one of those rare instances where it looks like the creative costuming is done right.
