Malaysian singer Namewee adds to the countless songs about the dream chasers lost in the strange allure and fog of the Northern Capital (Beijing). I don’t think Leehom has ever lived in Beijing, but who can complain about him.
Starting off the week with some old and fresh favorites!
1.A-Lin: 拿走了什么 (What Did You Take Away)
This is a track off her new album《罪惡感》， aka ‘Guilt.” It’s a sad ballad about breaking up and losing your loved one, and A-Lin’s emotional and thick voice delivers it wonderfully.Best listened to on a rainy day. :D Continue reading →
Singer G.E.M has announced through Weibo her upcoming album, and has already released the first track ‘Long Distance (多远都要在一起)’, which was also previewed at the 2015 CCTV New Year Gala. Today, she released the second track ‘One Way Road (單行的軌道)’, a powerful but also semi-jazzy ballad about not being happy, always stuck on the same one way road and never being able to go anywhere. This is another one of her emotional self-composed and self-written pieces spilling out her emotions and her past experiences with love and relationships. I think that many people can connect with this song and it’s meaning; how it’s so hard to shake off something that’s been stuck with you forever, whether it be a relationship or a conflict. G.E.M always impresses me with her skill in lyrics and music, especially at such a young age of 23. This album is looking very promising.
Despite all the backlash and criticisms swirling around her these days, G.E.M has not let that stop her in expanding her singing career into North America. Recently, G.E.M performed a mini show at the House of Blues in Hollywood, California and had a brief Q&A session with fans who sent in tweets. Before the performance, a snippet of the documentary being made about G.E.M was shown, and she later says that it will be released further in the year, so stay tuned for that!
Besides singing a few songs and casually chatting with the MC, G.E.M announces her step into the western market- by bringing her X.X.X Live tour to North America! The released dates are: Continue reading →
This week’s Music Monday includes a few performances for I Am A Singer. This intro music video is titled Cover For You 罩着你 by Sup Music x C-Block (a Changsha based Hiphop group). The Chinese hiphop scene is mainly underground and difficult to follow overseas, but ZHONG.TV is a good place to start.
Meteor Shower’s theme song was released featuring the voices of all four “Hua”. The soundtrack will feature the lovely voices of Wei Chen and Yu Haoming …and the voices of Zhang Han, Zhu Zixiao and Zheng Shuang. The series will be shown in early August on Hunan TV, after Always Smile! finishes airing.
