eeMedia, SM Entertainment collaborate for new talent show

aka how Li Yuchun scares her opponent to tears with her awesomeness

If you want to watch an example of how to pull a boyband together, X Fire 燃烧吧少年 is it. From eeMedia and SM Entertainment ,  you’ll think the show is a freak show after episode 1,  you’ll fall in love with the same people after the team work their miracles on them in ep 2.  Two weeks later in episode 3, you’ll be filled with team spirit and wish  Li Yuchun’s team would debut already.

Joining the show to create eeMedia and SM’s new boyband are opponent team leader Shu Qi,  eeMedia CEO Long Danni, song arrangement and choreographers from both eeMedia and  SM Entertainment,  and Su Mang, editor-in-chief of Harper’s Bazaar China and CEO of the Trends Group, which publishes the mainland versions of Cosmopolitan and Esquire.    Host-actress Yi Yi and singer Bai Jugang round up the group.

The show is best watched as a whole to get a true sense of the transformations of the boys (and the magic of Li Yuchun). Their dancing in general are pretty week, but here are a few of my favorite performances so far:

Gu Jiacheng (23) 谷嘉成X伍嘉诚 Wu Jiacheng (22) – Two time first-places and one-time second place. I love the opening of this arrangement (Li Yuchun’s idea).

Hightlights from HNTV New Year Concert 2013-2014

HNTV 2014 NYC

Happy New Year!! What’s a new year celebration without a few good concerts? Lets begin with the always energetic and youthful Hunan TV New Year Concert. Hosted by Happy Camp and Day Day Up MCs (as usual), this year’s concert should really be called a family concert since almost everyone are affiliated with HNTV in someway.

idarklight‘s favorite performance might be the cuteness overload from Zhang Liang and Tian Tian, but my favorite performance of the night has to be the special rendition of Ylvis’s The Fox by Superboy 2013. Performed by Bai Jugang 白举纲, Jia Shengqiang 贾盛强, Ning Huanyu 宁恒宇, Rao Wei 饶威. Supergirl 2011 (Fu Mengni 付梦妮, Hong Chen 洪辰, Liu Meihan 刘美含, Zu Miaoling 苏妙玲) also joined the quartet at the end.

The full concert is available on HNTV’s Official Youtube Channel, below at a few highlight acts from the night.

N13 Studio combines visuals, music

At a time when most are using the default, eeMedia’s N13 Visual Studio dares to experiment with typography, and writes many of their own fonts.

Despite all their successes, Hunan TV once  lacked the visuals to back them up, resulting in lackluster MV’s and stages for great  talents. The entrance of the N13   Visual Studio, headed by the talented Peng Youlun, has made eeMedia at the frontiers of staging effects and MV qualities in China.

Among Peng Youlun’s more colorful MV’s, such as Su Miaoling’s Time Portrait below , she tend to use a lot of filters(?) to blur the colors a bit.  Similar techniques are used in Zhang Jie’s First Lady.

“Why do we sing?” promo by Peng Youlun

Why do we fly?
Because dreams are there
Why do we run?
Because the road is there.
Why do we begin a journey?
Because the destination is there.
Why do we sing?
Because freedom is there.
Why do we burn?
Because life is there.
Why do we sing?
Because freedom is there.
Why do we burn?
Because life is there.
Now or ever. Rock n’ roll, youth.

Another one of my favorite Super boys promos by director Peng Youlun and writer Wu Mengzhi.

Wei Chen releases MV for Tiny Times OST

Gratuitous shirtless Rydian

Gratuitous shirtless Rhydian Vaughan

Even the worst eeMedia production has an awesome OST, and Tiny Times, one of the best eeMedia film & TV investments, definitely has a beautiful one. eeMedia artist Wei Chen sings the ending theme, penned by author-director Guo Jingming, of the first film.

The lyrics play on various homophones, including “夜/页”, one which means night and the other page.   The title itself is a play on the word “热血,” hot blooded, since the words for “blood” and “snow” are homophones.

RTA Youth releases Funny Honey/Classmate MV

5e2bee51gw1e4pe7dip0fj20i80pc78e

Even though RTA youth is actually now the same age as many boyband members when they debut, somehow they all continue to look like tweens.

Boy group RTA Youth released a new MV, Classmate/Funny Honey. The MV is actually produced by 13N+ Studio, which is an eeMedia-affiliated visual production company who also does amazing stage visuals (New year concerts and Super Girls 2011) that we can look forward to seeing in this year’s Super Boys.  I think they’ve really raised the visual standards for mainland production companies at lower budgets. Some of their other works include Super Girls’ Baby Sister,  Su Miaoling’s Time Portrait, Wei Chen’s Moonlight, Zhang Jie’s First Lady, all of which are not super high budget but looks wonderful.

Also, SJZGloria wants to add that Zhu Yuanbing recently auditioned for Beijing Film & Central Drama. Kind of surprising since he went to the Shanghai Drama-affiliated high school.

eeMedia Family Winter MV pictures Part 2

Li Yuanxi, Liu Xijun, and Zheng Shuang are the second group to film for the eeMedia family MV

So apparently the “Winter/New Years” MV  will actually have most of the eeMedia family but they’re being filmed separately, because it’s easier to coordinate. And eeMedia is really impressing me with how well-coordinated it’s become. Last year was a lot of firsts for the company and it showed. The previous MV was cute, but with stock outfits and everyone looked more tired than happy. The New Years concert also turned out messy. But this year everything  in Long Danni’s plan for the company  seems to have just about fallen into place and hopefully this year the New Years concert will be better too.

Continuing the  tradition from the last post, have a bit of Top Combine: new individual pics. Their album release date is confirmed as Dec. 13th, which is also coincidentally, Kimi Qiao Renliang‘s album release date. He also released new album pics. The boys aren’t trying to spread out at all are they?

New eeMedia Family Winter MV being made

Like last year, eeMedia’s filming a year-end MV although this time it’s only with Yu Haoming, Wang Yuexin(!), Top Combine and Pan Chen and Pan Hongyue. But that doesn’t mean the behind the scenes pictures are any less fun to look at. I think I gained like five new ships. They even have me shipping Wang Yuexin/Pan Chen now. Madness. Sorry for the lack of Jin Ensheng and Zhang Yuan, hopefully other pictures will come out soon.

And slightly related if you want to watch:  Top Combine MV Teaser came out.

Yu Haoming Releases Album with ‘Hugs’ from eeMedia family

Usually there’s one or two hugs at a album release, but Yu Haoming’s release of his first album, “Hug” was filled with them, which made the whole affair very cute.  It included those from Wei Chen and Zhu Zixiao, the supporting H2 of Meteor Shower, and from his two favorite girls – Zheng Shuang and Liu Xijun. Top Combine, whom he trained with in their early days was there to support him as well.
