A round-up of dramas that have just started filming, mostly rom-coms and xianxia romances, without their own posts yet. Which ones are you looking forward to the most?
Brotherhood of Blades: Shadow of the Lands 绣春刀·山河之影 (lit.) Cast: Zhang Yunlong, Sun Yi, Chen Ruoxuan Executive producer: Lu Yang Directors: Li Yi, Cao Hua Screenwriters: Li Yi, Xu Yiliang (Princess Jieyou) The first drama from Lu Yang’s Brotherhood of Blades universe, it’ll cover the founding of the Ming dynasty and the formation of the jinyiwei.
Miss the Dragon stars Zhu Xudan as the heroine Liu Ying, who lives as a maidservant, a fisherman’s daughter, a general and a cultivating disciple over four lifetimes. Wang Hedi plays her protector and love interestYuchi Longyan.
The drama releases 2 episodes every Monday – Wednesday on Tencent, so should be available with English subs on WeTV / Tencent Youtube.
Based off the popular game of the same name, Miss the Dragon stars Wang Hedi and Zhu Xudan in a romance of four lifetimes, and will premiere on Tencent on May 10th. At least this looks better than the version in Stairway to Stardom?
Eternal Love / Parting of the Orchid and Demon King 苍兰诀 (lit.) stars Yu Shuxin as Little Orchid Flower, the reincarnation of a powerful goddess whose clan was massacred by demon lord Dongfang Qingcang (Dylan Wang). Little Orchid Flower unwittingly releases him from captivity, and a torturous romance begins.
The Rational Life 理智派生活 (previously The Woman Who Cannot Fall in Love 无法恋爱的理智派) stars Qin Lan(We Are All Alone) as our thirtysomething heroine who must decide between her younger true love (Wang Hedi) or her crafty yet much more suitable superior (Li Zonghan).
It’s pretty rare to use popular young actors for this period, but the casting for both seem spot-on . Wang Hedi and Zhou Ye look perfect for the wide-eyed university students of the era, and Li Xian and Chun Xia are both very solid actors who can blend flawlessly into the era. Plus, this is Hong Kong Film Awards Best Actress Chun Xia’s first leading drama role, so I’m actually really interested in the two projects. Whose stills makes you want to watch their dramas?
