Air date update, July 2019

Nowadays dramas can be pulled 10 minutes before airing (ahem Novoland, although that’s probably more to do with the fact that it’s a period drama), so don’t get too excited about the shows with unconfirmed dates.

Shows that dropped with little notice: The Untamed, Love and Destiny, The Longest Day in Chang’an, Novoland: Eagle Flag

Promo Round-up: Cry Me a Sad River aka River Flows To You

Cry Me a Sad River has changed its Chinese name to Stream of Joyful Memories, so here’s a happy picture in Zheng Shuang and Ma Tianyu’s third collaboration.

Zheng Shuang and Ma Tianyu play a pair of childhood friends whose paths separate in their third drama together, River Flows To You 流淌的美好时光 (formerly Cry Me a Sad River 悲伤逆流成河). The series, so loosely based off the original book that its title is literally the opposite, begins air daily beginning July 1st. It should be available on Youtube here.

In semi-related news, Ma Tianyu and Zheng Shuang are currently regulars on new variety show We’re Growing Up 我们长大了, which is available on Youtube here.

New trailer below; stills and first teaser, more stills, translated excerpts of the book here.

MV Round-Up: Cry Me a Sad River OST

With four memorable songs, anti-bullying film Cry Me a Sad River 悲伤逆流成河 might have my favorite original song list for a film since  Tiny Times.

Don’t Cry by Sunnee is sung from the viewpoint of one survivor of bullying to another.   You can watch another version of the MV that shows victims of bullying taking off the names they were called.

“I’m sorry” takes seconds to say
but “It’s okay” may take forever

Depressing trailer and posters for movie version of Cry Me A Sad River

Trailers and stills have been released for the movie version of Cry Me A Sad River 悲伤逆流成河. Unlike the drama version, the film seems like it’s going to be a relatively faithful adaption of Guo Jingming’s source novel, which delves into bullying/peer victimisation, rape, teen pregnancy STD’s, and suicide. The movie has cast completely new actors Zhao YingboRen Min, Xin Yunlai, Zhang Ruonan and Zhu Danni as leads.

Translation of selected excerpts: (1)(2) | Teaser  | Theme song by Rocket Girls’ Sunnee | Insert song by Ren Suxi

In just a hour, her father told her, “don’t come to look for me again.”
Her mother told her, ” After you die, don’t come looking for me.”
Yi Yao patted her stomach and asked, “are you stupid? why did you come looking for me?”

Part 2 of translations of selected parts of Cry Me a Sad River 悲伤逆流成河 by Guo Jingming. Part 1 here.  Both translations were done like five years ago, so don’t judge, but feel free to comment on errors.
