Good Morning Last Monday of 2014! Thanks idarklight for keeping Music Monday as consistent as possible! Here’s to consistency in 2015! …
Another cute acoustic song to add to my playlist. Really, I should just rename the playlist as My 徐良 Xu Liang. His new album 《我》, a composite of ten duets, features a different female artist on each song, from Guo Jing to Happy Camp’s Wu Xin. Seriously! How does this happen? I Will Be OK features Xiao Yan Zi李晟 Li Chen.
I’m back! I realize the last time I posted anything was back in February. So… Lets ease back into Music Monday again. But first I would like to introduce two new discovery of sort. 1) Music Radio Billboard Chart and 2) CCTV Global Music Chart.
Music Radio Billboard Chart has been around for a few years, but the webpage was never that visually appealing. The chart is now separated into Mainland, TW/HK, and new releases. Then there’s CCTV’s brand new “live” music performance program Global Music Chart first aired in March. While not all the performances are for new songs, but I’m not going complains about finally having a show dedicated to musical performance and promotion. Like its counterparts (Music Station/Inkigayo) a winner is crowned at the end of each episode based on SNS votes, text, and audience votes. I hope they include digital and physical sales later to promote legal music download/purchase.
Speaking of music award, it’s music awards season again! Yinyuetai held their 2nd annual award show a few weeks ago. The award show itself wasn’t all that interesting, basically anyone who decided to attend got an award, but there were some great performances. QQ Music held their first music awards show this year. Finally the all important Music Radio Annual Top Billboard Charts and The Chinese Music Awards 全球华语榜中榜, which were both held in late April. Continue reading →
Four of the biggest female singers in cpop, hailed from four different regions of cpop, came together for Project WAO theme song. The song titled We Are One or Women as One features A-Mei (张惠妹), Na Ying (那英), Sandy Lam (林忆莲), and Tanya Chua (蔡健雅). The charity concert for Project WAO was held this last weekend in support of abused women and young girls.
Starting the lunar new years with another unexpected collaboration, GOOD NIGHT MY LOVE (penned and composed by Wei Chen) is a special Valentine’s Day duet performed by Vision Wei Chen 魏晨 and Laure Shang Weijie 尚雯婕. The music video follows Wei Chen from street to street, store to store, looking for the perfect gift for this Valentine. [MR]
Thank goodness for snow day or I might not be able to do Music Monday again. I do apologize for skipping two (?) weeks of Music Monday. But I’m going to make it up to you guys with some great music in this week’s Music Monday =)
This week Su Xing makes a comeback with a new single, Jimmy Lin sings to his son Kimi, Ding Dang reminding you BBJQ will air sometime this year, and many more.
Let’s start with David Cui 崔龙阳, a Beijing-based grass root musician studying at the University of International Relations (yea…), released his first album 《Hello!》. The music video below is for the English single Mirror, first released in 2012.
This week’s Music Monday includes a few performances for I Am A Singer. This intro music video is titled Cover For You 罩着你 by Sup Music x C-Block (a Changsha based Hiphop group). The Chinese hiphop scene is mainly underground and difficult to follow overseas, but ZHONG.TV is a good place to start.
Every time I finish Music Monday I tell myself “I will do this over the weekend next time.” But next time comes around and I’m still doing it on Monday… *hanging head in shame*
Here’s a peace-offering – The CD version of the smoke covered collaborative song by Zhang Liang 张亮 and Tiantian 天天(张悦轩) I am Not An Idol 我不是男神, written for him by Ning Huanyu.
Before the end of 2013, He Jie and her new hubby, actor He Ziming, released their wedding ceremony video set to He Jie’s new single Let’s Get Married 我们结婚吧. The couple did a traditional wedding clothes photoshoot (is it a traditional Yi (彝) wedding outfit?) a while back.
Watch the beautiful music video below and more wedding photoshoot below the cut.
It’s been three years since Ma Tianyu 马天宇 has released any new music; his last EP Soliloquize 自言自宇 was in 2010. And as we all know from previousexperiences, Ma Tianyu love surprising us with new concepts in his music video. In this music video for Bystander 世界之外 Ma Tianyu dyed his hair blond.
Ma Tianyu kept himself busy during these past three years filming dramas such as Xuan Yuan Sword 轩辕剑之天之痕, Young Detective Dee 少年神探狄仁杰, Legend of the Ancient Sword 古剑奇谭, a time-traveling wuxia drama The Duet 四手妙弹, and a republic era Shanghai drama by Han Xue Workshop Ladies Home 淑女之家, (Han Xue 韩雪/Chen Xiang 陈翔/Mao Xiaotong 毛晓彤) just to name a few.
Another brand new year is almost upon us… which means a brand new Take Happiness Home (把乐带回家) microfilm, AKA Pepsi Annual Cpop All-Star New Year Commercial. You can watch the touching microfilm from previous two years here and here. Below is the theme song for this year’s microfilm, featuring Harlem Yu (庾澄庆), Huang Xiaoming (黄晓明), Ai Fei (艾菲), and Pepsi’s newest spokespersonMomo Wu (吴莫愁).
I just want to take a small poll of Music Monday. I know there aren’t many cpop focused sites out there and Cfensi mostly concentrate on mainland entertainment. But since TW and HK cpop is a huge part of cpop, would you guys like me to cover some TW and HK cpop in next year’s Music Monday? I don’t follow HK music scene at all (mostly because I don’t speak Cantonese), but if you guys want I can look into it once in a while…
Music Monday will probably be a biweekly post in the new year. (15 videos in this post) Continue reading →
