Here’s my favorite performance of the CCTV Sping Festival Gala, a theatrical spectacle set atop Mount Tai that almost looks like an Olympic Torch Lighting. The three song performance features Huang Xiaoming, Wallace Chung, Jerry Yan, Xia Li’ao, and Li Yundi.
It seems like a while since we have done a music-related post so here’s to Jiangsu TV’s New Year Concert, featuring some of the biggest artists in the greater China region and Asia including but not limited to A-mei, Stefanie Sun, Jolin Tsai, Fenghuang Chuanqi, Li Jian, Hu Yanbing, SNH48, The One, Zheng Chunyuan, Li Yuchun, J.J. Lin, Chi Changxu, Li Ronghao, S.H.E., Fish Leong, Tan Weiwei, Piao Shu, Sha Baoliang, Tao Jingying, Ekin Cheng, Lin Xiaofeng, Xie Tianhua, Qian Jiale, Deng Lixin, Wu Yufei, Fu Ying, Yang Aijin, T-ara, Wu Mochou, Wei Chen, Dong Chengpeng, Li Xiang, and singers from Yizhan Daodi. All those people in that poster above. Heck the freakin’ show comes in like FOUR OVER-ONE-HOUR SEGMENTS!!
Justin Timberlake is embarrassed to be overdressed for the occasion, so he’s avoiding direct eye contact. Wang Leehom, on the other hand, is more confident. He doesn’t mind that he’s dressed like General Zod from Superman II. “Look how parallel to the ground I can hold this cup,” his eyes seem to say.
I started following everybody’s favourite Taiwanese-American superstar on Twitter recently. Did you know that KevJumba is going to be in an action movie with that Asian guy from Glee this year? Quirky stuff.
In unrelated news, Wang Leehom recently got a new Twitter account. He tweets pretty frequently, so you have to sift through a lot of junk tweets to get to the good, meaty stuff. I mean, apparently it was his birthday on Saturday. As if we were paying attention to that. And his wife is five months pregnant with his first-born child? Really, come now.
Anyway, the now-38-year-old and father-to-be (happy birthday and congratulations from us, by the way) is giving his physically coordinated fans the chance to perform with him on stage at the Bird’s Nest Stadium in Beijing on 14 June, where Justin Timberlake will also appear as a special guest. For those of you who can dance, here are the details: Continue reading →
The New Year concert on Dragon TV 东方卫视, Shanghai based television channel, is another must watch concert. The show featured Chinese Idol contestants, Han Hong 韩红, actor/singer/judge Huang Xiaoming 黄晓明 PKing singer/actor/MC Show Luo 罗志祥. Also in attendance is Taiwanese girl idol women musical group S.H.E, going into their 13th year together and still going strong even as married women (Ella 陈嘉桦 and Selina 任家萱). It wouldn’t be a party without some pretty faces – representing the girls is Shanghai based theater girl group SNH48, and representing the dudes is SM boybands Super Junior-M and EXO-M. The concert also featured special performances from Richie Ren 任贤齐 and Jonathan Lee 李宗盛.
As if that’s not enough incentive to watch the show, just look at this 3D (4D?) light show during the new year countdown!! The full new year concert is available on the official Dragon TV affiliated youtube channel in three parts here, here, and here.
Happy New Year!! What’s a new year celebration without a few good concerts? Lets begin with the always energetic and youthful Hunan TV New Year Concert. Hosted by Happy Camp and Day Day Up MCs (as usual), this year’s concert should really be called a family concert since almost everyone are affiliated with HNTV in someway.
idarklight‘s favorite performance might be the cuteness overload from Zhang Liang and Tian Tian, but my favorite performance of the night has to be the special rendition of Ylvis’s The Fox by Superboy 2013. Performed by Bai Jugang 白举纲, Jia Shengqiang 贾盛强, Ning Huanyu 宁恒宇, Rao Wei 饶威. Supergirl 2011 (Fu Mengni 付梦妮, Hong Chen 洪辰, Liu Meihan 刘美含, Zu Miaoling 苏妙玲) also joined the quartet at the end.
The full concert is available on HNTV’s Official Youtube Channel, below at a few highlight acts from the night. Continue reading →
At a time when most are using the default, eeMedia’s N13 Visual Studio dares to experiment with typography, and writes many of their own fonts.
Despite all their successes, Hunan TV once lacked the visuals to back them up, resulting in lackluster MV’s and stages for great talents. The entrance of the N13 Visual Studio, headed by the talented Peng Youlun, has made eeMedia at the frontiers of staging effects and MV qualities in China.
Among Peng Youlun’s more colorful MV’s, such as Su Miaoling’s Time Portrait below , she tend to use a lot of filters(?) to blur the colors a bit. Similar techniques are used in Zhang Jie’s First Lady.
Jane Zhang held her Japan Premier Showcase on March 29th. The arrangements for the songs were energetic and playful, and she pulled them off like a pro. She also performed a Japanese version of “light in darkness” Continue reading →
CCTV’s Spring Festival Gala has become one of the symbols of the Lunar New Year in China and one of the most extravagant shows that CCTV puts on every year. Jay Chou’s performance was probably the most anticipated event of the night. It consisted of three generations of singers – folk singer Song Zuying, Jay and 9-year-old genius Hou Gaojunjie- singing a blend of Song Zuying’s “Spicy Girls” and Jay’s “Herbalist Manual.” Apparently, singing with Song Zuying has been a dream of Jay.
Update: Jay also said that he has already invited Song Zuying to sing in a duet with him. He says he wants to compose a duet just for her.
Anson Hu a month ago became an exception to Taiwan's rule that no mainlanders could give solo concerts in Taiwan...now he'll be one of the many.
The company that brought Na Ying and Faye Wong to fame is ready to present it’s newest mainland superstar – Huang Yali, an energetic 19-year-old. Taiwanese companies have recently been increasingly signing on mainlanders, from rock bands such as Fusion and AOK to pop stars like Jade Liu. This is probably in light of the fact that after Taiwan’s changed presidents this past year, things have begun changing with respect to Mainland-Taiwan relations, including a suggested lifting of restrictions on mainland artists activities in Taiwan.
Wang Leehom, Jolin Tsai, SJ-M, Mayday, Fish Leong, Zhang Liyin, Rene Liu, and the entire ee media family will all spend New Year’s Eve on Hunan tv and ctv’s new year countdown concert. Rumored guests include the new and original F4 as well as David Beckham. Continue reading →
