It’s been exactly 15 years since Chinese Paladin first aired, and the series has remained my favourite xianxia drama ever since.
A flashback series of photos of Chinese Paladin 仙剑奇侠传 featuring Hu Ge, Liu Yifei, Ady An, Esther Liu, Bryan Wong, Eddie Peng and Tse Kwanho among others. Unlike many of the recent xianxia / 仙侠 dramas that focus solely on the romance or fantasy aspect and forgo the equally important code of chilvalry (侠), this one had equal parts romance, adventure and friendship.
Ah Sang’s Always Very Quiet, my favourite song from the soundtrack.Continue reading →
I see a pattern. Shanghai Tangren’s made Chinese Paladin 1, then 3, and now, they’ve announced a tentative cast for Chinese Paladin 5 (another RPG game), starring Jiang Jingfu as the protagonist. His love interest, a “gentle lady of the Tang family” is rumored to be played by Victoria Song Qian (interestingly enough, he’s currently filming a drama with Victoria’s fake husband Nichkun). The other male lead will be a Yaksa Prince from the Demon World. The quartet is rounded out by a descendant of Nuwa. Li Xiaoyao is her grandfather (played by Hu Ge in CP1, if you recall).
And speaking of Hu Ge and Wallace Huo! The two men are supposed to appear as guest stars…the first across Liu Shishi’s female pugilist, and the second across Tang Yan’s bird demon. In addition, Tangren actress Ying’er is supposed to make an appearance. Comparisons between the tentative casting and original character designs are also below the cut; take a look at who they’re playing! (Many comparison photos were taken from a different drama) Once I got past the “destiny and blood ties! Humanity and demon hearts! Chivalry and love!’ flower fluff of the synopsis, I deducted that the story seems to climax around a sealed well that links the human world and the demon world. Note: All of this casting is tentative, and very likely to change. I am a little suspicious of how many cast members are returning from Chinese Paladin 3, especially the familiar pairings. Source. In one year, Tang Yan shot from the abyss of unknown to having lead roles opposite Jackie Chan, Hu Ge, Aaron Kwok, Ekin Cheng and now Jay Chou.
The newcomer from Chengtian , along with Jessie Chiang, will be the female lead of “Panda men.” Filming began in Xiamen yesterday in the most covered school of the year – Xiamen University, where Meteor Shower is also filming. The crew will also be filming in Shanghai and Taipei. Continue reading →
Chinese Paladin 3, which is actually the second Chinese Paladin drama, finished filming on the 10th. It stars the hopefully recovered Hu Ge, the extremely busy Yang Mi, newcomer Tang Yan, Crystal Liu look-a-like Liu Shishi, and Wallace Huo. The drama plans to air next summer. The real name of this drama is still pending.
Just a pic from the prequel to Chinese Paladin, which also follows the plot of the 3rd game in the Chinese Paladin series, hence the 3. This stars Hu Ge and Yang Mi, who were also a couple in one of the shorts in “The Strange Tales of Liao Zhai” but Hu Ge does not play the same character he did in Chinese Paladin. Yang Mi is filming this at the same time as “Dream of the Red Chamber” so if you see her getting skinnier then that’s probably why.
