Promo Round-up: Twelve Legends

The drama will consist of several standalone stories, much like Tangren’s previous Liaozhai and Fox series.

2021 bromance drama ships are already competing for fans

Next year has dozens of bromance dramas hoping to make the next big ship, and they’re already competing for fans. Three had pretty high-quality leaks today, including Fan Chengcheng and Wang Anyu’s Run Freely, Tan Jianci and Chen Zheyuan’s Winner is King, and Zhang Zhehan and Gong Jun’s A Tale of the Wanderers. All three are actually kind of cute, and I’m hoping at least one of the bromance dramas next year will be good.

Bromance drama Winner is King 杀破狼 has finally finished filming and it unfortunately looks like every other historical drama, with almost no signs the story is set in a silkpunk ancient world. The cast looks cute, though. The series is an adaption of Priest’s BL novel of the same name, and has cast Tan Jianci (The Advisors Alliance) and Chen Zheyuan (The Handsome Siblings) as the leads.

The Golden Hairpin releases first stills

Kris Wu and Yang Zi’s mystery-thriller The Golden Hairpin, which has been caught in more controversy than maybe the leads in the novel, has finally finished filming after half a year.

The stills are picturesque and kind of have an old painting feel to them, although I read the drama is suppose to be a comedy. (Behind the scenes)

Promo Round-up: Handsome Siblings

The latest remake of Handsome Siblings comes from the director of Mengfei Comes Across and the second writer of Legend of the Condor Heroes 2017, and stars Hu Yitian and Chen Zheyuan as brothers who have been groomed to turn against each other.

CCTV-8 will air 3 episodes daily and run for 44 episodes, while iQiyi will be streaming the full 53 episode version (2 eps daily).

Promo Round-up: Detective Chinatown web drama

Writer-director Chen Sicheng has grand plans to create his own Detective Chinatown Universe, and the web drama is his first attempt at bringing the series out of cinema and onto the small screen.

The 12 episode web drama comes from Sam Quah, the director of well-received crime thriller Sheep Without a Shepherd and releases 1 episode a day every Wed-Sat beginning today.

Nazha, Jasper Liu pair up for Republican fantasy Twelve Legends

Twelve Legends 十二谭 is based on the novel of the same name by Niluo (Wuxin: The Monster Killer), and stars Nazha (Ten Years Late) as Yeming, the human form of a luminous night pearl. Jasper Liu (Before We Get Married) costars as Jin Xingjian, originally an ordinary rock who displays characteristics of a deity as well as a demon.

Web drama adaption of Detective Chinatown releases first trailer

Supervised and written by the Detective Chinatown film series’ director Chen Sicheng, the web drama version stars Roy Qiu as a private investigator. Janine Chang, Chen Zheyuan, Cheng Xiao and Deng Enxi costar. The 12 episode series will revolve around four cases, all set in different locations and directed by different up-and-coming directors.
