Promo Round-up: Novoland: Pearl Eclipse

Novoland: Pearl Eclipse chronicles Haishi’s (Yang Mi) journey from a fisherman’s daughter to a general and finally empress dowager of a kingdom. She’ll also have a torturous romance with her teacher Fang Zhu (William Chan), who has sworn a blood oath to his king. The secondary couple is also pretty melodramatic – we have a king (Xu Kaicheng) whose first love was sacrificed due to political intrigue, and a new empress (Chen Xiaoyun) who looks exactly like the king’s first love.

The 48 episode drama releases 1 episode a day on Tencent (viewing calendar).

Missing Persons revolves around the six people who become stuck at the bottom of a mysterious valley after a horrific car crash. The 12 episode sci-fi mystery stars Lv Yulai, Liu Chang, Chen Xiaoyun and Chen Haoyu (currently in cult hit I Don’t Want To Be Friends With You).

The 12 episode miniseries is written and directed by Wang Ruixin, one of the writers who worked on 2015’s Evil Minds.

Peng Xiaoran and Huang Junjie reenacts The Legend of Demon Cat

From classics like Daming Palace/Palace of Desire and Chinese Paladin to recent films like The Legend of Demon Cat and Cry Me a Sad River, Tencent’s new acting competition Attention, Actors 演员倾就位 combines the best of I am an actor and Phantastic by capturing the actors for a TV performance rather than on stage while still maintaining an one-take rule. Featuring directors Chen Kaige, Li Shaohong, Vicki Zhao Wei, and Guo Jingming, the resulting segments are on average far more watchable than the other two.

Plus, they have some great stills and posters that are better than many dramas and film posters that are wallpaper-worthy. You can watch episode two English subbed here. Zhang Yunlong and Chen Xiaoyun act out Romance in the Rain:

Zheng Shuang’s coming-of-age drama airs tonight

Director Zhao Baogang (Struggle, My Youthfulness) is back with Youth Fight 青春斗, a 38 episode drama revolving around the friendship of four university graduates, their struggles and successes. Starring Zheng Shuang, Gai Yuexi, Xu Yue, Chen Xiaoyun and Wang Xiuzhu, the series airs daily on Beijing TV and Dragon TV beginning tonight.

Ruyi’s Royal Love in the Palace 后宫·如懿传 has released more images of the wide cast of characters.  Starring Zhou Xun, Wallace Huo, Janine Chang, Li Chun, Dong Jie, Tong Yao, Chen Haoyu, Xin Zhilei, Zeng Yixuan, Wu Junmei (Vivian Wu), Chen Xiaoyun, Huang Ming, Jing Chao, Li Qin, Yuan Wenkang, Hu Ke, Zhang Jiazhu, Cao Xiwen, Yu Yang, and He Hongshan, I am assuming these are simply costumes for more minor characters but that in itself is pretty mind-blowing.
