First teaser for Zhou Xun, Huang Bo’s gritty crime thriller

Across the Furious Sea is the much anticipated thriller comes from Cao Baoping, whose most notable works include Cock and Bull, The Equation of Love and Death and The Dead End. I’m also looking forward to watching The Perfect Blue, though with Fan Bingbing in the cast, I’m not sure when the film will be given the green light.

The film stars Huang Bo (Crazy Alien) as a father who is seeking revenge after his daughter died at the hands of her boyfriend, and Zhou Xun (Remain Silent) as the killer’s mother. Across the Furious Sea is scheduled for a Summer 2021 premiere.

Huang Bo, Zhou Xun star in Cao Baoping’s new film

Across the Furious Sea 涉过愤怒的海 is the third film in director Cao Baoping’s Burning Hearts 灼心 series, and stars Huang Bo (Crazy Alien) as a fisherman who finds out his daughter was murdered while studying in Japan. Meanwhile Li Miaomiao, the victim’s boyfriend and biggest suspect, has avoided persecution by returning to China with the help of his parents.

In Laohuang’s original novel, the protagonist is a man determined to avenge his daughter, though the film will focus more on family, reconciliation and redemption. Zhou Xun (Last Letter) and Zu Feng (The Mask) costar.

Zhang Xueying’s coming-of-age film Einstein and Einstein gets a wide release after 5 years

“Don’t forget what type of kid you were. Don’t forget what type of adult you once wanted to be.”

Director Cao Baoping’s (Equation of Love and Death, The Dead End) third film Einstein and Einstein 狗十三 stars then-13 year old Zhang Xueying (Summer’s Desire) as a love deprived only daughter who is sent to live with her grandparents after her younger half-brother is born. Fan Bingbing, Wang Ziwen, Xin Zhilei potential murderers in The Perfect Blue

The Chinese title她杀 is She Killed, a wordplay on murder 他杀 ,  killed by a third-person , but with a female instead of a male pronoun)

355 isn’t the only film where Fan Bingbing is ready to kill. The actress finished up filming her crime thriller The Perfect Blue 她杀 this past week.  The film stars Fan Bingbing, Li Qin, Xin Zhilei, and Wang Ziwen as four women, at least three of whom are suspected of a crime committed ten years ago. Huang Xuan stars once more as the only male character in major film. The film is a loose sequel to director Cao Baoping’s acclaimed (and highly recommended by me)  The Dead End.

Who did it? All of them? None of them? Or one of them?

Fan Bingbing, Huang Xuan confirmed for director Cao Baoping’s new crime thriller

Tentatively titled She Killed 她杀, the upcoming mystery thriller is the second film in Cao Baoping’s Burning Hearts 灼心 series, and stars Fan Bingbing (Sky Hunter) as a mysterious woman with a load of secrets. Huang Xuan (Tribes and Empires, Youth) costars as a man who holds the key to the truth.

It’s a vague synopsis, but the director does have a track record of producing solid thrillers – The Equation of Love and Death gave us one of Zhou Xun’s best performances to date, and The Dead End managed to deliver a gripping story despite the strict censorship laws.

She Killed is scheduled for a late 2018 / early 2019 premiere.
