A look at some of my favorite photoshoots by Pill Fan/Fan Xin. Be it Joan Chen strolling under a rainy Shanghai skyline or Jing Boran melting into the mountains and lakes of Yunnan, the objects of her photos always effortlessly become one with their surroundings.(more…)
Two series of photoshoots and mini documentaries celebrating home for the Chinese New Year’s holiday season. Featured are Wang Junkai, Mei Ting, Ma Yili, Dong Zijian, Song Yi, Jikejunyi, and Zhou Bichang.(more…)
Three generations of Chinese actresses.
It’s rare to get this many stars to do anything together, not to mention a photoshoot where everyone’s agent is probably fighting for a better spot, but Vogue Film has done it in conjunction with its gala this year. The photoshoots includes some of the biggest actors, including Li Bingbing, Yang Mi, Angelababy, Liu Shishi, Tong Liya, Xin Zhilei, Tan Zhuo, Huang Xuan, Ethan Ruan, Zhou Yiwei, Zhai Tianlin, Han Dongjun, Xu Weizhou, Peng Yuchang, Bai Baihe, Jing Boran, William Chan, Ma Sichun, Janine Chang, Sun Yi, Li Meng, Qi Xi, Lan Yingying, Chen Ran, Victoria Song, Ouyang Nana, Wu Lei, Chen Feiyu, Song Zuer, Yang Le, Geng Le, Li Chun, Zhang Xueying, Zhang Zifeng, and Chen Wenqi. Musicians Zhang Bichen, Li Yundi, Zhou Bichang and models Ju Xiaowen, Xi Mengyao, Chutimon Chuengcharoensukying (Bad Genius is amazing and I highly recommend it) , and Karlie Kloss also joined in the fun.
I was able to recognized 34 of the 42 without looking at the list of names, how many can you identify?
I’ve been listening to too much indie recently and haven’t been able to find a way to embed them (Xiami!!! Expand to the U.S. already!) , so most of the songs are theme songs this week, including ballads by Zhou Bichang, Aska Yang, and S.H.E. Rounding up the group are a song from Zhou Ziyan‘s debut album and electric rock from Yaoband‘s new album.
But more importantly, here’s an awesome cursing song, Death Comes Early for the Handsome 长得帅死得快, for Detective Di Renjie 名侦探狄仁杰 aka the only good new series this year so far.
Brighten your Monday up with a fun tune from Aarif Rahman, a cute family zoo song from Fan Weiqi, a powerful rock ballad from A-mei, songs of friendship from RTA Xu Hao X Zhu Yuanbing, Ma Haisheng and M.I.C.‘s Tan Jianci.
A-mei sets fire to the patriarchy in her epic song and MV Matriarchy 母系社會
Super busy Yang Mi‘s first produced drama, featuring all new actors with herself, Shawn Yue, Monica Chan, Bibi Zhou Bichang, Tan Weiwei, and Kim Beom as the guest leads, will finally be airing on July 21st. The series is the first high-budget drama produced for the Internet, and is one of a series of Internet series from QQ.
Although they’re all fairly new as of filming Micro Times, Dilireba, Gao Weiguang are also featured in Yang Mi’s upcoming series Ancient Sword, while Zhang Yunlong is a supporting lead in Zhang Han’s Paranormal Adonis. As a preview, next week is going to be Zhang Han week.
Remember when I said that the I Am A Singer 我是歌手 finale was going to be good? Well, I lied. It was pretty awful. In almost three and a half hours of airtime, we got about 24 minutes of good music. Proportionately, that’s like taking out all the main parts of a Pitbull song and just listening to the featured artist.
The first segment of the finale invited musical guests to duet with the seven finalists. Turns out, that wasn’t a great idea. And most of the finalists probably would have done better without their partners. Take a deep breath, here’s a rundown. (more…)
Xie Ziming 谢子明, an entertainment magazine editor and Bibi Zhou’s I Am A Singer agent for this week, leaked the list of celebrity guests for the show’s final round on his Weibo account yesterday. Basically, none of the rumours we had heard were correct.
To the disappointment of some fans, the revelation quashed earlier rumours of possible appearances by Jane Zhang and Wang Leehom. Later reports paired the guest singers with the I Am A Singer finalists. (more…)
I Am A Singer 我是歌手 drew one step closer to crowning its second season champion as the hit show’s semifinal aired last night. And while the performance results mostly mirrored the trends of previous weeks, Malaysian fans quickly took to social media to voice their discontent over Shila Amzah’s anomalous sixth place showing. Some questioned whether her low score was the result of Chinese backlash over the Malaysian government’s handling of the Malaysian Airlines flight MH370 investigation. More on that later.
Chinese reality singing contests often follow unconventional formats compared to their international counterparts. So if you’re confused as to how someone actually wins this show, or why a previously eliminated contestant is back on stage, here’s a quick guide. But if you’ve been following the show and just want to watch the videos and read some rants and reviews, feel free to skip ahead! (more…)
