Gao Yuanyuan is striking in sumptuous evening gowns for her new photoshoot with Bazaar. #gorgeous Ni Ni melts out of the shadows (alongside dark crescents and blue polka dots), while Barbie Hsu has the best jewelry. Yang Mi evokes a 1920s movie star, with crimped hair and popcorn. Li Bingbing is also stunning, with slinky dresses and a dress made of red poppies. Look below the cut for more pictures. Chen Xiao fans, you officially have the right to be jealous. Here he is with child actress Zhang Zimu, who’s playing the little-girl version of Xiaolongnü in The Condor Heroes (神雕侠侣)… yet another of Yu Zheng’s added flashback plots. But she’s cute so I guess it’s okay. Plus Chen Xiao is already smitten with her.
I’ve already fallen into enemy hands. Little Xiaolongnü asked me, ‘Who are you playing?’ Actually it doesn’t matter who I’m playing, I’m here to ask to take a picture with her. Mua!
Upcoming Chinese Romance Movies of 2010
Sorry – the new site and forum is being fixed and worked out. We’ll make an announcement on this site when it is more complete.
In the meantime, here’s a list of modern day romance movies to look forward to in 2010, because these films are covered less than the ancient/wuxia/martial arts films by English-language media and yet, China has completely nose-dived into this genre in the past year. Cinema goers in China want the choice of light-hearted entertainment from the cinema, and the Chinese film industry is rapidly accommodating that niche in the market.
Last year, there was only a small selection – this year there’s much much more. With China’s total box office up 44% in 2009, and 1.65 cinema screens added per day, with no signs of slowly down, this should only be one sign to look forward to of the growing diversification of China’s rapidly rising film industry.
The 28th Hong Kong Film Awards
The eligible films are those where two of the following occur: the director is a Hong Kong resident, at least one film company is registered in Hong Kong, and at least six persons of the production crew are Hong Kong residents.
And the winners are…
Huang Xiaoming, Barbie Hsu, Peter Ho, and the future of Chinese dramas
In recent news, Huang Xiaoming just replaced Dylan Kuo as Ou Chen in the Summer of Bubbles after investors complained to Peter Ho, the producer and co-star (as Luoxi) of the drama. Huang Xiaoming apparently liked the script so much that he agreed to be paid a fraction of his worth just to be in the drama. Other than the fact this’ll be the first Taiwanese drama starring a mainland actor, it’s also significant as Summer of Bubbles is one of the several mainland books that’s been recently picked up as dramas. A word on the direction of Chinese literature and dramas.
23 Taiwanese Stars Invited to Participate in Short Film for Golden Horse
Twenty-three of the hottest and more importantly, most talented Taiwanese stars have gathered for a comedic short film that will be broadcasted during the 45th Golden Horse Awards on December 6th. Its name is aptly “Movie Dreams of the Taiwanese”. Included in this roster of actors besides the pictured Bryant Chang and Ariel Lin, are Chang Chen, Chen Bo Lin, Eddie Peng, Van Fan, Barbie Hsu, Wang Leehom and the Zhang Junning that I don’t usually gush over on this site, the female one, Janine Zhang Junnng.
Chinese Celebrities When They Were Young
I said I would do a special fun post in exchange for someone making my banner when site hit 10,000. Well, here it is as promised, although nobody ever made me a banner. :( This is still incomplete…I don’t have a few people in here, and I wanted to put an after pic of everyone, but I got way too tired of that so I only put some for some people I didn’t think people would know (like all the mainland guys apparently), but eventually I will update this and make it the most comprehensive Chinese celeb baby picture list ever.
Love or hate her, you’ve got to admit Liu Yifei was one of the most adorable children ever.
More of cute adorable children behind the cut. I think it’s really rare for Chinese people to do plastic surgery (as of now) so this won’t be one of those “spot the differences” posts. This took a lot of time and effort to put together, so PLEASE DO NOT COPY AND POST ANYWHERE ELSE, w/o permission.
Who’s handsomer? Andy Lau or Stephen Chow? Our first look at Future Cops.
Xu Jiao has certainly come a long way since being picked out of thousands of girls (and presumably boys) in China to play Stephen Chow’s son in CJ7, she starred with Aaron Kwok in one of the Sichuan Earthquake short films, now she’s beginning another movie with Andy Lau, and already people are vying for her approval. At the meet and greet of the new pre-production “Future Cops” movie (not related to the old one), the entire main cast was there. Andy Lau would play a time traveling space cop, Barbie Hsu the love interest, Xu Jiao the daughter and Mike He will be playing Andy’s boss.
Small S: Instant Zhang Ziyi Fan at Elle Style Awards
This more or less perfunctory type event was given a little jolt by Taiwan TV personality Small S, or Dee Hsu. As Zhang Ziyi, who was next to last to receive an award, made her way up to the podium, Small S exclaimed, “It’s her, It’s her! This is the first time I saw her with my own eyes!”
“My so-called Love” screens its movie trailer
It seems very odd to see Eddie Peng and Barbie Hsu together, no? But it seems like the movie will be interesting and will allow both of them to show different sides of their acting.
