Chen Kun and Yuan Quan sponsor a jewelry brand in style at an event, with Yuan Quan in white riding a horse, and Chen Kun giving her a ring, like a modern day prince and princess, except that pretending to¬† marry was really awkward for them. Normally I wouldn’t care, but it’s two actors that I like, both of which whom actually have really nice singing voices and I’ve long wished they would collaborate in something like a musical. They will be working together, but instead will be in a HK film.

Effeminate Bryant Chang and Macho Ariel Gonna Show the Movie World They Can't Be Typecast

Twenty-three of the hottest and more importantly, most talented Taiwanese stars have gathered for a comedic short film that will be broadcasted during the 45th Golden Horse Awards on December 6th. Its name is aptly “Movie Dreams of the Taiwanese”. Included in this roster of actors besides the pictured Bryant Chang and Ariel Lin, are Chang Chen, Chen Bo Lin, Eddie Peng, Van Fan, Barbie Hsu, Wang Leehom and the Zhang Junning that I don’t usually gush over on this site, the female one, Janine Zhang Junnng.

Chinese Celebrities When They Were Young

I said I would do a special fun post in exchange for someone making my banner when site hit 10,000. Well, here it is as promised, although nobody ever made me a banner. :( This is still incomplete…I don’t have a few people in here, and I wanted to put an after pic of everyone, but I got way too tired of that so I only put some for some people I didn’t think people would know (like all the mainland guys apparently), but eventually I will update this and make it the most comprehensive Chinese celeb baby picture list ever.

Love or hate her, you’ve got to admit Liu Yifei was one of the most adorable children ever.

More of cute adorable children behind the cut. I think it’s really rare for Chinese people to do plastic surgery (as of now) so this won’t be one of those “spot the differences” posts. This took a lot of time and effort to put together, so PLEASE DO NOT COPY AND POST ANYWHERE ELSE, w/o permission.

Hunan TV will remake Hana Yori Dango/ Meteor Garden

Using the “Superboys”.

I’ll update this post and this site with more details as I get them.

I was always wondering if mainland China would film its own Hana Yori Dango. If you follow mainland Chinese television, you quickly come to find that there are the state-wide CCTV productions, which like expensive big-budget series with casts that attended drama universities, etc and then there are the provincial productions like Hunan TV who don’t get quite as much money, but don’t have the restraints CCTV does, about providing moralistic drama with meaning, etc. If China were to have a large amount of meaningless idol dramas, they would come from these local, provincial level stations. So here we are, at the possibility of Hunan remaking Meteor Garden using their “Superboys” aka “Kuai Le Nan Sheng” (the Chinese American Idol-type series for those of you who don’t get my constant references to this).

Looks Like Someone Won Something at the Golden Bell Awards

Would you rather get a kiss from Joe Cheng or win Best Television Actress at the Golden Bell Awards? Some lucky people can have both. Yes, Ariel nabbed the highly competitive prize this year against the likes of Joe Chen Qiao En(heavily favored), Rainie Yang and Angela Chang.

Kind of lazy to post the pics, but more are here

Joe and Ariel’s Press Conference for New Drama

Joe and Ariel had a little press conference for their new drama, “My Love Bread”, which was formerly known as Trillionare Bread, which I think I had translated as something totally off before. Whatever. They had finished all of the shooting in Taiwan in the last months three months, and have gone to the mainland for a 3-day shoot, in Hangzhou, so this may actually be airing quite soon.

Wu Jianfei, who got famous through the 2006 “My Hero” competition in China is going to be part of the cast as well, playing Ariel’s character’s ex. Wu Jianfei already has a budding career in Taiwan, with his latest CD being released there and having Selina (of SHE)’s sister star in his MV but to be honest, it’s not sold that well, and hopefully this will give him some more exposure. Unfortunate that he doesn’t act as well as he sings.

The curious thing about this is that Taiwan has, or at least had, a policy banning mainland actors being in Taiwanese movies or dramas. I wonder if this has changed gradually since Ma Ying-Jou has stepped into office and what this means for the future of collabs between the two. I think it would do both places some good actually because mainland dramas can be a little too serious at times, and Taiwan’s a little too silly.

Joe Cheng and Ariel Lin Brave Typhoons for Filming

Joe Cheng and Ariel Lin of It Started With A Kiss fame have teamed up again for a new drama, My Millionare, where no one is actually a millionare it seems. The plot details are still a little fuzzy for me. They showed how hard actors need to work to reach deadlines by filming recently in the middle of Typhoon Jang Mi, which has already cost hundreds of millions of property damage for Taiwan. Maybe that’s why no one is a real millionare in the series.
