It’s been exactly 15 years since Chinese Paladin first aired, and the series has remained my favourite xianxia drama ever since.
A flashback series of photos of Chinese Paladin 仙剑奇侠传 featuring Hu Ge, Liu Yifei, Ady An, Esther Liu, Bryan Wong, Eddie Peng and Tse Kwanho among others. Unlike many of the recent xianxia / 仙侠 dramas that focus solely on the romance or fantasy aspect and forgo the equally important code of chilvalry (侠), this one had equal parts romance, adventure and friendship.
Ah Sang’s Always Very Quiet, my favourite song from the soundtrack.Continue reading →
The Legend of Dugufocuses on the Dugu sisters, who each marry into royalty. Our female protagonist is the innocent Dugu Qieluo (Hu Bingqing), who falls in love with and marries the founder of the short-lived Sui Dynasty Yang Jian (Zhang Danfeng).
Her ambitious older sister Dugu Banruo (Ady An) marries the emperor of Northern Zhou (Zou Tingwei), yet has complicated feelings for Yuwen Hu (Xu Zhengxi), the powerful regent of Zhou. Third sister Dugu Mantuo (Li Yixiao) and her husband end up being the biggest winners, as their son Li Yuan would later establish the Tang Dynasty and unify all of China.
I’m looking forward to the Dugu Banruo/Yuwen Hu pairing – both of them value power above all else, and that’s going to make for the best type of angsty melodrama.
Legend of Duguhas released an 8 minute trailer that gives us some more insight into the Dugu sisters and their relationships. Hu Bingqing (Midnight Diner)plays Dugu Qieluo and Zhang Danfeng (Little Lucky) plays her husband Yang Jian, the future emperor of the Sui Dynasty.
This is your weather forecast. Today we can expect purple skies and thunder storms but none of this will deter cranes from flying around still. Palace backdrop courtesy of Curse of the Golden Flower.
Seeing the amount of attention Han dynasty dramas have been getting, I thought we needed a breather. Seeing the things that Yu Zheng gets away with and the number of installments he has added to his overdone Palace series, Lafeng Entertainment has decided to challenge this by making a sequel to their 2011 television series Mystery in the Palace. Starring Ady An, Kara Hui, Michelle Yim, Jiang Yi, Chen Zihan, and Liu Tingyu, Golden Hair-Pins in the Palace 金钗谍影(Who came up with this title?!?) is seeking to up Yu Zheng on the color palette and costume creativity, something they are starting to become famous for .
Set in the Qing dynasty, Golden Hair-Pins in the Palace seems to follow the typical story of an innocent girl as she navigates the plots and schemes in typical palace life and finds true love along the way, except with some detective stories added in like the sequel. Anyways, more stills below the cut to ogle so I guess it’s a win.
The dreaded question has arisen… who is cuter: Nicky Wu, or a Despicable Me Minion dressed like Nicky? For those who are wondering, the first one is Emperor Yongzheng from Bu Bu Jing Xin (步步惊心), now immortalized at Madame Tussauds, and the second is Zhan Lang from To Advance Toward the Victory (向着胜利前进).
This week Yico Zeng (曾轶可) want to tell you about women’s secret, when Fu Xinbo is waiting for your love, just when Xianxi agreed to let go, and Zou Rong thinks the best love is when Xu Haixing is a flower, and Lai Weifeng is bad.
We’ve all been there, either at school or at the mall… how can there be no parking space? Continue reading →
A 54-foot-tall inflatable duck arrived in Hong Kong earlier this month, though it unfortunately had to be deflated after a while due to strong winds. It’s all JJ Lin‘s fault.
Eddie Peng has been enjoying major success with his movies in the past two years: LOVE (爱), Tai Chi 0 (太极1), Tai Chi Hero (太极2), and Cold War (寒战) all surpassed 100 million at the box office, and at last count, A Wedding Invitation (分手合约) brought in 180 million RMB in sales and is expected to reach the 200 million mark.
Apart from having the Midas Touch at the box office, it seems as though Eddie might have another superpower. Did Eddie travel back in time to help shape U.S. politics by becoming one of Barack Obama‘s high school basketball teammates?

Outlook Magaine: #Old Photo# Obama and his teammates (1977)
Fan: @Eddie Peng, are you sure that’s not you on the bottom left corner? Eddie Peng: Yep, that’s me.
Unfortunately, no one else in this week’s Weibo Wednesday seems to have developed any awesome superpowers, but that’s okay, we love them anyway.
With a narration that makes it sound like the opening of a cartoon, and a surprisingly fitting English title, “Saving General Yang” , aka family of hot guys who generally can’t act, released its first international trailer with a semi-comical narration.
The movie stars Wu Zun, Vic Chou, Li Chen, Fu Xinbo, Raymond Lam, Ady An, Li Qian, Xu Fan, Ekin Cheng, Yu Bo, etc. Watch the trailer below from tableshape@YouTube.
